Season got cut short by the writers strike (last time around) that's why the slightly non finale feeling ending and odd episode count. For reasons I can't say at this point, it actually worked out to the shows massive benefit and the show on the whole is far better due to it.

I love your reactions to this show. I haven’t rewatched BB as many times as I’ve rewatched GoT, not because BB isn’t a great show, but because Walt has always rubbed me the wrong way. That said, rewatching it with you makes me appreciate its brilliance. What they did on an obviously small budget is incredible. The writing makes the characters feel so real. The timing and acting are impeccable too.

I agree, the writer's strike cutting the season short ended up being a blessing in disguise. I've seen the writers talk about what their original plans for Season 1 were, and I'm so glad they didn't go through with it. I can't reveal much, but let's just say that what we ended up with is WAY better than what their original plans were.
