Loving this so much so far! You are asking all the right questions and picking up the information you should be at this point— as always, SoFie, you are being perceptive and thoughtful with the characters and story you’ve been given so far. You may feel like you are a little lost, but you are actually doing great at taking in the very large amount of info the first few episodes flood you with. I love your style of pausing to talk and think especially here, since sometimes there is so much happening. Can’t wait for you to see more!

These early episodes are building blocks and you're catching the right things. I genuinely think you're going to love this show. It evolves quickly.

So happy rewatching this show with you it''s been a while since my last rewatch I forgot how fast the plot advanced you are catching on to so many things for a first viewing well done! It's great seeing you catch on to little details even as you don't know what they mean yet. Can't wait to get to the rest of it, it's so unfortunate there isn't more than 2 seasons but at the same time it's nice to know we'll get to see your reactions to everything in the not so distant future.

(Just my opinion - no hate please) Die hard Buffy fan here. You are 100% not wrong in the ick factor. The issues of consent and feeling like it’s not okay is the correct feeling. It’s giving, what if Warren won in the end… This show is a walking Joss Whedon red flag 🚩However, yay, Eliza, and it is a really fun mystery show. This show would NEVER be made today, which is progress and a good thing. It’s definitely one of those shows that’s hard to watch again, though I really remember enjoying it when it aired. I honestly can’t remember if it gets less creepy, but I’m along for the ride 🫣

madfem

except you're supposed to be creeped out. I don't see how that's a red flag then.

Mahaut

Yeah I agree it’s nice to see shows explore the morally wrong and morally grey areas. It’s a good what if scenario to make you question your morals, ethics and what are your own limits to what is ok and what is not vs society’s rules on what is ok what is not etc and why. Shows like that have a creepy undertone and can for sure make you feel uneasy and I get it’s not for everyone but I think it’s kind of the point of them too. It can be good to be put out of our confort zone and question ourselves and our society/ potential sci-fi future society. Just as long as you watch it with your brain turned on.

Allison

Thanks for sharing a thoughtful take on that. I totally see your point. Maybe I’m biased because of what we now know of Joss Whedon’s history. It’s just jarring to have such a different memory of it as a kid vs a rewatch now. Your perspective shifts and you understand things with a more discerning eye. Like I said, I don’t remember the show perfectly, so I’m trusting the crowd that the show takes a turn towards a thought experiment. I get it’s supposed to be creepy and a question of morals and ethics.

Mahaut

I don’t want to speak about it more now cause I want to avoid spoilers but if you’re interested we can talk about it more already after the season 1 finale I think. I know what you mean about Joss but I think his messages tend to be good ones, too bad he doesn’t actually apply them in his own life. Or that’s my feeling of him anyway…

madfem

Sofie don't worry, this show is NOT about watching creepy stuff happen for 2 seasons !! (why would we make you watch that ???) It is an amazingly deep and thought provoking show, like every Whedon show! You'll see it for yourself very soon tho so I'm not worried ✌️

I agree! He's a creep IRL for sure, but he is also a really good storyteller, and I love this show for asking the question: What does it mean to be human? To be an individual?

Phoenix Dawn

How is this "walking Joss Whedon red flag" when he is clearly saying this is all wrong?! You do realise he is not endorsing the Dollhouse, right? Also, Eliza was an executive producer of the show. It wasn't solely Joss' baby. Yes, Joss is problematic, and somewhat of a creep. And I think more of the redflag Joss thing in this show is more how Ballard is portrayed imo. But elaborating that would be spoilers so I'll leave at that.

Phoenix Dawn

Yes. Unfortunately, this show's concept is one of the best sci-fi TV in the recent years.
