We promised we'd be trying out some different viewpoints during the dig, and this next one is spectacular!

We've got hold of a pair of special sunglasses with a built-in camera for each eye, enabling a unique first person perspective on the dig. What's more, Hilde agreed to try them out for us. For many, this will be the closest you'll get to digging at Sutton Hoo!

We'll be trying this out more during the dig, so let us know what you think in the comments.

Irene Daly

I love it, it’s almost as good as being there- except my knees won’t be as dirty!

Joanne Kellam

Almost like being there and digging myself! Except easier on the knees and back. 🤣 Seriously though, great perspective!

Mary Campos

Interesting idea. She could narrate as she is digging.

Henrik Vogt

This is exactly what I have been hoping for. Thank you!!

Alice Hutchinson

That's really good, I've never seen scraping up that close.

Maggie Bateman

Absolutely brilliant !! More please....

Kevin Murphy

Loving these new types of filming the dig that you are showing us, Hilde looks so happy to be trying out her new specs, keep up the great work.

Pete Richardson

Fabulous evolution to how inclusive Time Team is, it's always bought me along and made me feel part of the exploration, now even more so

John Lewton

I think the experience was a good one. (I was a bit distracted by the occasional strand of red hair blowing from right to left across the FOV. ;)

Linda Monk

Really good but I’d love to know what she’s looking for and the actual purpose of this particular process. The pictures are very clear but some explanation for those of us who lack knowledge and experience some explanation would enhance our enjoyment and understanding.

Paul Williams

Yes, like that. Very good first hand perspective 👍

Maggie Huffman

Fantastic. Appreciate how much you all are doing to include us!

Cathie Kozik

What a great way to watch what's going on!

JanD

In lieu of a GoPro, then; would've been even more amazing had Hilde come upon a find!

Jason Mann

Awesome idea, keep the cams coming!

Richard Hartman

Being sunglasses, does it distort the digger's view of soil color?

Rosemary Cormack

Excellent way to get a much better idea of the work that goes into digging. More please!

Mea Cadwell

I like it, it's almost like I'm digging there myself. It's as close as I'll ever get to a dig.

Anita C

Specs cam is brilliant! I hope to volunteer on a dig someday, and this is almost like being there. Thank you so much for setting this up! ❤️

Jessica Wicks

I love it! I’m 76 and disabled, so a dig is something I can’t do. But this allows me to get up close and as real as possible. Thought going forward. If you could outfit all archaeologists and diggers with those glasses, your film compilations later on could catch those moments of new discoveries.

Leanne

It was a helpful viewpoint of the diggers. However, I did find myself getting a tad queasy while watching. For me, it would be interesting to see that viewpoint when an interesting find is being retrieved as the usual camera shots seem to be too far removed from the moment. Was it comfortable for her to be wearing them while working? If not, have you thought about a body cam?

Bron Lloyd

Loving it all! Wouldn’t it be amazing if they found something (later under the topsoil) truly significant while we were all watching. Or you all were - it’s the middle of the night for me so I have to watch the replays here in Adelaide!

Patricia Amero

🤯 No way... NO WAY?! OMG... incredible. I'm there!! What a cool bit of kit... I'm so loving this. Thank you, please do it again. 🙏

Mary Vila

Love it felt like I was there‼️

Graham Dombkins

haha.. I **LOVED** that view Thanks for reminding an old bugger like me what it's like to have hair that can get in your eyes! 😉

Graham Dombkins

Though I do hope people aren't too self-conscious and don't talk to each other and feel worries about being natural.

Simon Roper

Really good first person view. More please. The lenses can always be removed when good contrast vision is required.

Gillian Gordon

Another fun perspective! Personally, I was loving the daily 360 degree in the afternoons as it allowed a leisurely look around the site. If it’s not a huge faff, maybe we could have this too? Thanks TT for all the coverage ☺️x

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Gillian, we're mixing it up with a few different perspectives, but will be returning to the afternoon 360 lives later in the dig.

Sacha Messialle

i think its just amazing to be able to have a full birdseye view of the trench ,dig as it goes on ,its like youre there on site , it puts things into perspective as it shows the otherside of the show ,the glamourous reality of the weather , the production teams efforts to film ,everyone going about their buisness . the hours long painstaking digging ,thats always so much worth it in the end as looks so relaxing concentrating on a pation ,with people who have the same drive to uncover the past love it .😊🐝🌸🌼👢🥾💪☀️🌧️❄️💨🌈🧜🏼‍♂️🧚🏼‍♂️🥄🧹⛏️

David Boon

I think there is huge potential for capturing the moment something amazing is uncovered. So many times the cameras and crew rush over after the fact. To see something as it emerges would be amazing.

Mel

Oh my gosh what an incredible view!! This is so amazing!!! 🙌🏻🤩 Thank you so much Hilde for giving us a front row view of the dig! Thank you, TT!

Rosemary Henderson

I really like this - it's the first time I've really been able to appreciate how the archeologists can see the stains and colour changes that indicate something significant. Good stuff!

Patricia Amero

I was worried that the darkened lenses would make it difficult to pick up various contrasts in soil colour (or possibly make it clearer under certain light conditions.) Your suggestion makes perfect sense.

Cheryl Kurucz

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Maria

I really like this. It makes you feel more involved in what that team are doing and what they may find. Thank you 🙏

Difort

I dig this! Nice work Hilde.

Mark

If the glasses have a camera for each eye, could you share a side-by-side recording of both? (Or at least a separate recording of each eye.) That way we can try the full 3D effect on VR headsets.
