We are excited to finally be sharing our latest episode 'Bringing Home Little Boy Blue' on the Time Team official Youtube channel this Saturday 2nd August at 7pm BST.

In July 1944, an American B17 bomber aircraft, ‘Little Boy Blue’, crashed over the fields of Suffolk. Of the ten crew, just two survived, with three still officially unaccounted for. Time Team’s Helen Geake joins an international team from Cotswold Archaeology and Operation Nightingale to investigate the scene of the crash, in hope of shedding new light on the events of that fateful day.

Working with the US government, in fulfilment of its ethos to ‘leave no man behind’, the mission aims to repatriate the missing airmen, and provide closure for their families.

In this moving feature-length episode, the team pay their respects to the ‘Masters of the Air’.

Join us this Saturday for the premiere!

Coming Soon! | Bringing Home Little Boy Blue | Time Team Special

Today marks 81 years since the crash of the B-17 Flying Fortress ‘Little Boy Blue’ in a quiet field on July 19th, 1944. The crew on board never made it home - their sacrifice, like so many others, shaped the course of history. Last summer, on the 80th anniversary, Time Team was honoured to collaborate with Operation Nightingale and Cotswold Archaeology on a deeply meaningful excavation at the crash site. Together with veterans, volunteers, and local historians, we uncovered new evidence, honoured the memory of the crew, and brought their story back into the light. This dig was a powerful reminder of how archaeology can connect us to the past in profoundly human ways - and your support made it possible. Tonight, we’re sharing the trailer for our upcoming documentary, which tells the full story of that excavation and the emotional journey it sparked. The full documentary will follow in the coming weeks. Until then, thank you - for being part of the Time Team community and helping us share stories that deserve to be remembered. Note: This is a formal DPAA recovery mission, led on the ground by Cotswold Archaeology, supported by Operation Nightingale, Cranfield University, local volunteers, and the US military. Special thanks to landowner, Steve Honeywood, for his generous support of the mission. I'll do my best to catch it early. But as on holiday. I may miss it.

The subject is close to my heart as I was an aircraft mechanic stationed at RAF Lakenheath from 1985-1989. The crash site you are working is very close to where we flew aircraft from during the Libian encounter. Plus I was envolved in to Phantom crash investigations while I was in Germany.

I have seen the other TT episodes with the Operation Nightengale group. It's an amazing group of veteran's using their talents and experiences to bring home those who fought side by side with them. Being an American, this is especially meaningful to me, and I delight in the bond between our 2 nations. Thank you!!!
