The wait is finally over! After Helen left us all on the edge of our seats at the end of The Princely Burial we are so excited to finally be able to share what was found!

Tune in tonight from 7pm GMT to watch the unreleased episode.

In the last hour, on the last day of a dig investigating an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Gloucesterhire, a metal detectorist discovered a mystery iron object in a wooden casing. With no time to investigate, the team has no choice but to leave it in the ground and return another day. Speculation was rife - could they have found a sword and a Saxon warrior’s burial? This is the story of that return visit, when the team headed back to site with one clear mission - locate and identify the iron object. But as is often the way with archaeology, it wasn’t that simple. From the off, things weren’t quite what they seemed. The team encountered many challenges and unexpected plot twists over a wet and wild weekend. And only after a lot of head scratching and painstaking excavation, were they able to finally make sense of the object and piece together its story. And that story was so much more exciting than they had dared hope!

Grab a drink, get comfy and enjoy the show! This is going to be a good one...

Marion Tony McM

Fascinating information. You've given us lots to think about. Thank you.

Bartel

fascinating episode and it's a joy to hear Helen unfold the story

Larry Besel, Jr.

Great video! Why doesn’t Patreon allow me to maximize the screen on my IPad?

Todd Gillespie

I think Anglo-Saxon is about my favorite era with the graves and artifacts. Rather emotional episode with losing Pieta and seeing Kerry in a few shots.

Toria Grace

excellent episode 💪🏻💜

Toria Grace

not sure, but you should be able to click on the video and click the YouTube button to watch it on YouTube (the video uploaded on YouTube is not made public yet, hence why you won't find it on their channel but since we are patreons we get the link to see it early, this video on patreon is just a link to the YouTube video basically 😊 so hopefully you can watch it full screen that way instead.

Melissa Lawrence

Almost feels like a training / schooling vibe - if such things existed

Matthew Rice

What a wonderful story reveals itself with the narration by Dr. Geake, who does such a stellar job as host. I so enjoy joining in on attempts to piece together the story as more and more information is uncovered…and earlier theories are discarded and new ones suggested to explain the finds..a captivating 2 day dig watched from the dry comfort of my home with a bit of Lagavulin…great stuff!!

Carl Thorpe

RIP Pieta Greaves... Hopefully this programme will become a lasting tribute to her enthusiasm and skill as a conservator. She will be greatly missed..

Jakub Jůzl

Very good episode with a nice flow from start to finish. Fascinating to see the post-excavation up close. It was a sad moment learning about Ms. Greaves at the end of the episode, I thought during the stream that we may meet her again on future episodes of TT...

Claire

Loved this episode, thank you so much for sharing and brightening a gloomy Jan evening in Scotland. I wonder if the box had been made by the lady or child. So sorry to hear about Pieta

Nigel Sadler

Wow! What a brilliant archaeological research story.

Giles

Fantastic sequel to the first episode, Dr Helen is such a natural and knowledgeable presenter, would love to see her leading more of these digs... Lets hope the sun shines for the next dig!!

Alex Pardoe

Such a great episode, such sad news at the end about Pieta. Such great archaeology. Thank you, team.

Janna Reumerman

Again, such an amazing episode and story! It is very sad to hear about Pieta, she gave such a good explanation and clearly had much love for the field.

Johnny Lees

What a Fantastic episode. Thank you time team. Very sad to read that pieta.had passed away. Her love and enthusiasm for conservation was fabulous to watch..

Lynn Marsh Freeman

This was absolutely fabulous. How wonderful to discover a work box! Congratulations on a brilliant co-production with Operation Nightingale.

Cheryl

I had a preexisting hair appointment this morning (PST), so I brought my phone, enthused about Time Team for an hour, then my hairdresser watched bits along with me. Helen was a brilliant host. Delighted to learn about wool, lanolin and swords for the first time. Very impressed with the X-rays showing the beautiful patterning of the sword. And choked up a bit when Helen laid the flowers down. My hairdresser and I spoke highly during the program about Pieta Greaves and are sorry to learn of her death. I've spent the last two hours reading about her and reading an interview with her. Her specialty became archeology and engaging the public. She was the one who got the replicas of the Staffordshire Horde helmets made. Her death is a loss to us all. A terrific episode.

Ray & Christine Small

So sad about Pieta. I know Helen had already told us in her podcast when it happened but lovely to see her in full flow. Such a great lady

Jean Fleming

Such a moving, absorbing podcast, watched on a warm, wet summer's day in Aotearoa NZ. Thank you Time Team. The posy of wildflowers was so right.

Ian Holmes

Absolutely riveting television. I watched transfixed.

Barbara B.

One surprise after another in this episode! I enjoyed hearing the snippets of the archaeologists debating the possible interpretations and strategizing how to proceed. It truly felt like we were sitting at the side of the trench with you!

Fiona D

Loved it, loved it, loved it. Helen's narration was wonderful and really helpful. I can imagine the workbox decorated by the girl herself, as a kind of home ec project when she was younger. Something she kept and continued wearing.

Scott Morrow

Thank you Time Team for once more giving us insight into the wonders of British history and archaeology. Please know that your reach goes very far, as here I am in North Carolina in the US totally fascinated with what TT had been doing in the Tony Robinson years, as well as now with Helen and the other team members in TT's present format on Patreon. So very, very sorry to hear about Pieta. Alas, the transience of life....

Brett W Walters

I really am enjoying that we have Helen as presenter/host/expert, she is so engaging, more, more, more... I think we have a natural here

Michael Sperry

What a wonderful presentation! Such a wild ride following along as you uncover more and more oddities of this grave. Very moving.

Chef Tess

Brilliant episode! Bravo!

Susan Shepperd

Helen’s presentation skills never disappoint. And watching this dig unfold was a treat. Hard to believe all those bones and artifacts were so close to the surface for all these hundreds of years! Very sad to learn of Pieta’s death. May she rest in peace.

Alice Meyer

Excellent filming, editing, graphics and narration! Felt like I was there, which is the special reward Time Team gives to viewers. Thank you.

David Williams

I don't subscribe to You Tube's privacy enhanced mode so I can't watch the preview. Very disappointing.

Carrie Hartley

I have been riveted! Unwrapping, like an onion, not only the layers of soil and finds-but the understanding of the objects as the dig went on. So lucky to have all these experts to talk us through the processes and thoughts. I really did feel like I was there with you all-part of the team. Brilliant work. As I've said before - I'm coming back as an archaeologist!!!

Sheila Sanderson

Wonderful to watch the process of the dig. How terribly sad to see the In Memoriam at the end. Pieta so alive and vibrant gone so suddenly. RIP.

Kerry Hennigan

This was a really enthralling and unique experience.

Jennifer Thompson

It could be this, it could be that - or even .... no, it's more like a .... Lovely stuff. Enjoyed the reveal and the exchange of scholarly views.

Diana Smith

I so enjoyed this! thank you!

Pauline Purcell

This was wonderful! I loved the skill, knowledge, care and teamwork you all showed.

Mary Lu

This was so enjoyable to watch! It’s always a treat to see what time team is up to. And I especially enjoy Helen, she is the best.

Ingrid Mayer

This was one of the best episode so far. I loved that it had a "live stream" feel to it. Almost as being there when it happend.

Hunt

Fascinating discovery. So sad to see the In memoriam for Pieta though.

Michelle Cailes

I’m not even ½ way through and it’s riveting stuff!!

Michelle Cailes

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Helen is the best presenter of Time Team. Her skills set, knowledge and empathy with the topic serves her very well. 👍🏻

Shayrl Coston

What an exciting dig. Would I be wrong in thinking the boy and girl were probably siblings? Is that something that will be looked at in the future?

Deborah Wright

I am unable to cast this video to my TV screen via Chromecast. Is this a common problem? It would be so much better to watch this on the big screen.

Chris Gardner

Great to see the photos of Kerry at the dig site. RIP

Andrew Lamb

Brilliant as always … Helen weaves a fabulous narrative … well done everyone XXXXX RIP to our Time Team family … 🫂🫂🌹🌹🌹

Artesian

Well done completely fascinating history.

Stephanie Hogan

If you select "Watch on YouTube" in the lower right corner of the video, rather than viewing it in the Patreon app, you should be able to use Chromecast. It always works for me.

Shari Mullinax

R.I.P. Pieta. I very much enjoyed watching this one. I find these obscure areas much more enjoyable than those in high visibility sites. I also love Operation Nightengale.

Cindy Cogill

So entertaining. Well done but sad to see you have lost another Team member.

Janet Hay

Thank you for a fascinating follow-up to the first episode. I watched it yesterday on the train back from Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum, where I had revisited the Staffordshire Hoard, one of Pieta's other major projects. There is a display case which shows some of the conservator's tools, including thorns, to avoid damage to artefacts while removing the mud. We will miss her excellent talks at the annual Worcestershire Archaeology days. She also conserved the bone box found during the Milestone Ground dig at Broadway. So good, but poignant to see her working on site with Helen, Jackie and the Team. The departure of Pieta and Kerry is a great loss to Archaeology.

Elaine P

This was SUCH a fascinating show. I watched with my family, and we all commented on how much engrossing it was to be able to focus on just one thing, to be able to hear the discussions between the archaeologists in trying to figure things out. This could easily have been a longer show. And the follow-up was of course icing on the cake - equally fascinating and worth a show on its own. So much to share and show. Thank you for so much for doing this episode. One of my favorites. And after all that wonderment, it was with great sadness that we then saw the dedication to Pieta Greaves at the end. Our sincere condolences to her family and the Time Team crew.

Dennis D Kerkman

Loved this! Lots of questions: 1. Why did they bury anything in such a rocky place? 2. Did the boy and the young woman die at the same time? Are they related? Was one killed to accompany the other to the afterlife (nurse, nanny, slave,...), or did a plague or war kill both simultaneously, or sacrifice, or... ?
