You all know that next week we are heading back to Brancaster - but do you know why we decided to return?Well... it all begins with some unfinished business that our Geofizz team have been holding on to since 2012.

In this brand new episode, John Gater, Jimmy Adcock and the rest of the geophysics team take on a huge challenge: can we map the entire Roman fort of Branodunum without lifting a spade?

Using the very latest tech, they scan over 50 hectares of landscape - and what starts to appear beneath the surface is incredible.

But turning that data into something meaningful? That’s where things get really interesting...

🎬 Watch the trailer now and you will get the full episode early on Patreon from Friday 20th March, 7pm

The full episode will be released publicly on YouTube the following evening - but as always, you’ll see it here first.

We can’t wait to hear what you think.

TRAILER | Brancaster Geophys Challenge

Time Team returns to the Roman fort at Brancaster to tackle one of its biggest challenges yet: can you uncover an entire fort without digging? Armed with cutting-edge geophysics, John Gater, Jimmy Adcock and their teams survey the land, revealing vast hidden structures beneath the surface. From magnetometry to ground-penetrating radar, billions of data points begin to map out walls, roads and buildings lost for centuries. But as the digital picture emerges, a new question arises — how do you interpret a Roman fort you can’t yet see? With thanks to the National Trust and Historic England. Paraphrasing some esteemed archaeologists, you don't know for sure until you put trowel to earth.... In all seriousness, I'm really looking forward to what the latest geophys tech can reveal. The dig in 2012 was amazing, am thrilled TT has been able to return to it.

This is very exciting. Setting an alarm to check!

Can't wait for this, I live in North Norfolk (and studying Classical Latin: the language of ancient Rome) so what the Romans did on the outskirts of the empire is fascinating.

In the words of Bucks Fizz, "you're making your mind up" I just wish you would "speed it up".

Alan Murdock

You have to dig some things on it just to verify.

I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of what this return to Brancaster might reveal!

Olive oil in, wheat and minerals out. Not so much a “fort” more a major logistics hub. I hope we get to find some written evidence. DIG!

Menetho

I think it should be dug for a short period only, say, hm, just off the top of my head ... 3 days.

Eggs Ackley

Lets see, what was it Phil used to say? Oh yes, “We’ve got to dig it!”

BevCapeCod

Can't wait for the show! How can you resist digging?
