Week 1 has come and gone at our 2026 Ness of Brodgar dig, and what an amazing start it's been!

From sideways rain to bright sunshine, the digging has been non-stop (with a little time for LEGO in between!). We've already made some brilliant finds, and the features are really starting to emerge.

We can't wait to see what next week has in store!

The knitted professor Mick Aston brought tears to my eyes. He’s keeping his spirit near the Time Team digs and is happy his work with bringing Archeology interest to the general public. Go Time Team he says but much quieter and with a soft laugh. I’m Swedish with known ancestry in Orkney (via my father’s Scottish mother) and it feels so good to see the dig!

I'm looking forward to Matt's explanation for the Bronze Age Lego set he found!

Alan McMillan

Goodvto see our late Proffesor Mick was here in spirit!

I don't normally save images from these presentations, but the "Mick doll" - it was a must. I'm a fan from the beginning, even pre-Time Team. And I'm a knitter. What's not to love. Perhaps it's time to knit a striped jumper ❤️

the first time I saw him on a new Time Team episode I sobbed. I didn't even realize I needed to do that...but I cried so hard. Now he makes me smile and I look for him in all episodes in the main dome.

I like to say that a dig doesn’t properly start until the Mick doll is on site. ❤️

FluffyKat

I just told my cat Look, Professor Mick is there as well. Oh, he'll love this.

Looks like one of those digging situations where Mother Nature has decided to wash your clothes, down to the skin, while they are still on your body. :)

Rebuilding Jabba‘s long lost hut. But actually part of the Ness of Brodgar outreach program

Go on, show us the Lego creations... I especially want to see John's beer mug.

Wessex-Wyvern

D'you remember Time Signs? That is where I first came across Mick.

Janie Waters

Yes - I couldn't remember the name of that program as I was writing my initial comment; it WAS my first intro to Mick, and Phil as well. It was a very-well produced program :)

Beverly Letsche

Seeing the Mick doll always gets me right in the feels.

LELA L CRISWELL

I love the Mick Aston professor doll. Can you tell us who made him, and the story behind how it happened?

Katrin

I also would like to know. It’s so alike Professor Mick Aston in it’s outlook on the world!

Kathy Calmejane

Same here! Mini Mick looking out of the plane window, as I'm sure in some way Mick is looking down proudly over the continuing Time Team digs.

Lynda

Oh l loved the pictures

Lynda

I watch Time Team daily l miss Mick as well. Loved seeing the Mick knitted

Mika

The first photo is my favourite. And not because I have a mean streak, but because you can just *feel* the situation

Michael Shore

Was the lego Assembled or just lose pieces when you found it

Gosh, just look at how wet it was Day 1. No wonder Jackie was drying out her wellies with a hair dryer!
