Join us for a special tale from the far north as renowned Orcadian storyteller Tom Muir shares the legend of the Giant of Caithness.

Tom brings one of Scotland's great folk tales to life with the warmth, wit and authenticity that have made him one of the country's best-loved traditional storytellers. It's a wonderful reminder that archaeology and folklore often go hand in hand, helping us understand how people have interpreted the landscapes around them for generations.

If you'd like to discover more of Tom's work, including his books, stories and guides to Orkney's rich history and folklore, visit his website: https://www.orkneyology.com/

Enjoy the story, and thank you for supporting Time Team on Patreon!

Who remembers Tom from the Sanday episode way back in Season 5? 🙂

Love this, and great to See (and hear) Tom Muir again! I guess he survived the Cog :}

I cannot hear a thing because they have posted a list of more videros over the icon to open audio. Very frustrating.

Maria Hamilton

Always love to hear a tale! Thank you

Kerry Hennigan

Wonderfully imaginative. Love the stories.

Oh, what a fantastic rabbit hole to go down, just as I'm planning a trip to Orkney in 2027! Such a delightful story.

David Boon

It is amazing how similar ancient creation stories are across cultures. The First Nations people of Australia have similar stories about the creation of features in the landscape.

Valory

I loved this. Can we have some more please?

Peter Horsam

It's certainly worth going back and watching the Time Team episode s5 ep3 from Sanday. Tom was there. He's now a shanachie... spell it how you will, a storyteller. A most honoured and revered member of society.

Cheryl

Love the story, how Tom told it, and that he's sitting on the newly made latest style Neolithic couch!

Laura Soto-Barra

Thank you for a beautiful story. Please share a book title to read more of these stories. I love his words and pronunciation. Every single word is pronounced beautifully. ❤️👏

Steve Prowse

Is this on you tube for captions?

Felicity Fields

Loved it. I was lucky enough to attend a night of storytelling with Tom some years ago on my trip to Orkney. The factual history is great, but the stories are wonderful too in a completely different way.

Stephanie Neva

Fantastic! Tom's Orkneyology channel on YouTube is wonderful.
