As Stewart has always shown us, reading and interpreting the landscape around an archaeological site can help us understand the archaeology in a whole new way. And the Ness of Brodgar is no different!

The landscape surrounding the Ness is incredible and absolutely packed with archaeology. So, we thought we would take to the skies and share a flying tour of the wider landscape.

From the Ring of Brodgar to Maeshowe, there is so much to see and explore, with ancient monuments and archaeological features revealing just how extraordinary this landscape really is.

We hope you enjoy this special aerial tour, with a lovely voiceover from Sigurd Trowie, who guides us around the different sites and features of the surrounding landscape.

So sit back, enjoy the views, and take a look at the Ness of Brodgar landscape from a whole new perspective!

Fantastic views, wonderful scenery and overheads of the dig. T.T well done!

that really does help place the site into the wider landscape. I hope similar fly-bys can be done for future dig locations too

Beautiful photography and lovely commentary- thank you. The Scottish islands- on both sides of the main land are truly wonderful and special. Yes ,more of these fly overs please. Stewart needs his own drone.

Lynn Edwards

Thank you, Sigurd. Your name has been familiar to me for many years (thank you for all that work, too) but this year you have become more like a friend.

Kim Rouke

Thank you so much for this flying tour and voiceover. It really helped me put the new dig in perspective with the larger landscape. Please, going forward, add a flying tour of each new dig, if at all possible. It was wonderful!

Melissa Lawrence

Wonderful tour, every dig from now on should start with a flying tour.

Wow what an excellent video ! well done Sigurd for the great commentary. Scott Pike often sent the drones flying during the years of the original Ness of Brodgar dig. Adds a different perspective to the World Heritage area. ♥️

Carl Johnson

This is a great fly over summary. Thanks.

Stunning views and so peaceful and elegant and wonderful to show a birdseye view the whole area. The images and running commentary was so good for the soul and I may watch it weekly as a battery top up. Time Teams very own ASMR !!

What a gorgeous day for a flight over Brogdar! Thanks to the pilot for the slow tour and to Sigurd for his voiceover. It's a beautiful location and great for a wander!!

Barry

Wonderful to see what the area looks like in context with the digs thanks for thinking of this.👏👏👏👏

Sherri Knight

Thanks for the flyover. Unless you actually go visit this area, you don’t get a sense of how close all these sites are to each other. I was there for 2 weeks in 2024, so was lucky enough to see the Ness site still open. I loved starting at Barnhouse, , looking off to Maeshowe, then walking past stones of Steness, to the Ness and then onto the Ring of Brodgar. The haunting hills of the Isle of Hoy in the background.

Cheryl

Thank you! That was wonderful.

Kathy Carlson

Thank you for this gorgeous tour of the area. I appreciate hearing from a real Scot. (I lived in Aberdeen in the 70s, and I miss that accent. I'm on the other side of the pond now. )

DIANA R NELSON

Thanks so much. It really helps put the various digs in perspective.

Huw Davies

Amazing perspective. Thanks!

Nigel Sadler

I feel privileged to have ben able to view this magnificent landscape in this way. Thank you!

Lacy Oden

Thank you so much for this!

Leslie Peterson Sapp

I'm so sad I didn't get to see the site before it was covered over!

Mark Lund

Great footage. Gotta love what drones can do, ( in this context). I think there may be an invasion of TT supporters over the next 12 months, even though it will be all covered up…still lots to see!

Joe Keller

Loved it!! Excellent 👍
