There's been another season of digging at Cerne Abbey. The abandoned building sits at the foot of the icon Cerne Abbas Giant in Dorset.

In this bonus episode of the Time Team podcast, Helen Geake and Martyn Williams speak in-depth with Dr Hugh Willmott from the University of Sheffield. He's been leading the team of archaeologists at the site.

You'll find out more about some of the amazing discoveries the team have made and what it might tell us about the giant itself!

If you haven't done so already, don't forget to listen or watch the latest episode of the podcast ad-free here on Patreon. In includes a tour of the site from Hugh which will help put the dig into context.

I'd love to see a photo or 3D image of the ivory monk. Sounds fascinating!

I recall there was, a, geophys that showed something that was, postulated (romanticized) at the time it might be the burial site of the founding monk. Anything more on that?

Fascinating. A lot more to come no doubt

There was the mounds on top of Giant‘s hill where John „geofizzed“ some magic but never explained further. More interesting would be the Glass; and the older pre conquest times and whether; as mentioned in Tyrants and Traitors; there was more Roman / Saxon evolution rather than outright taking over revolution. Simply; an extension of something far older

If I was wishing for something it would be a volume control on these. They are often Really Loud and I have to dive for my device volume control. :-)

Loved this bonus material. It expands so much on the regular podcast episode. Thank you!
