It's the final contender in this latest round between Series Producer Tim Taylor and Development Producer Jim Mower – the Roman villa in Central England. We won't say we've saved the best until last, but it certainly seems to tick a lot of boxes!

Remember, it's not just the about villa itself; the landscape it inhabits could play an equally important role in the story. But tell us what you think...

The one site that I was really hoping would come forward especially now all the new technology is on board also nice to hear about the responsible metal detectorists and how this could become a site with a legacy can't wait.

Roxy Schoen

Ughh, not another Roman villa ... :)

Susie Stockton-Link

This sounds really good... and not just for MY generation, but for my grandchildren's generation.

Sarah Holloway

Brilliant this is the best site yet! I would give it the highest score it sounds absolutely wonderful .

Paul Tomblin

I'll never say no to a Roman site. One of the most amazing things that ever happened when I was in the UK was stumbling across Hardknott Roman Fort not knowing it was there.

Doug Mackey

Jim’s enthusiasm is contagious. I’m keener on prehistory, but honestly, each of these potential sites holds promise. Again, thank you Tim, et. al. For your continuing efforts!

Patti McCarthy

Great! I was a fan of this site ever since it was first pitched to the TT for all the reasons discussed today. A summer 2021 dig here sounds lovely! Yes! YES! A 10+++!

Priscilla Reeve

Wow, another exciting one! Therapy indeed. I hope all the thousands of us stuck at home will continue to expand our archeological horizons even when we are allowed out. I'm watching all the programmes all over again - did them last year when I didn't know this was in the pipe-line. Any chance of someone putting together a reading list for us non-professionals?

Pleased Pete

This does sound good on so many levels, least of which is the new technology that has come into being since the programme ended - this one has to be done for future generations

Carole Cox

"Legacy of Time Team" says it all. But are there good pubs nearby?

Bob Pockney

Oh yes, 10+ . A Roman Villa is not unique, but we need something everyone is familiar with to start and show all the aspects of archaeology with modern tech and good quality detectorist input.

John Matthew IV

Let's dig here! Great site with lots of potential. I would love to see what the state of the art technology could do here. I also love how it can become a legacy project with a couple of universities. Plus it is Roman! Another Roman villa, YAY!

Dave Storetec

10 out of 10, by far the best prospect. Bring on the Samianware.

Art lover

This is a great project, by now I think we would like to have some sort of running sub narrative about how all of this gets produced especially as to the people who’s courtyards you go into dig and the universities you help create programs and how our incredible archeologists call on all their resources to bear on the task at hand. This backstage stuff is gold for a legacy.

Martha Berryman

Roman Villa with some narrative mysteries plus local support and open unscheduled landscape to explore--especially demonstrating non-invasive science for grasping our histories, plus targeted excavations--it all makes for Jim's production development, camera, action, and Tony dashing through the site--it all makes for excellent drama as well as "denouement" advetnure(s). Only question, comparison with earlier continuous occupation site: Is there the added positive of archival narratives of site, as with the earlier site, connecting with the Colonies in America?

the polish dude

I'm all in on this one ,sounds very exciting with the newer geo fiz equipment . I love the way the team teaches as well as entertains. Rock On. Farmer Rich.

Amanda Taylor

Several references to Brancaster, one in terms of Durham University continued excavation, and finding mausoleums... that was Binchester (Vinovia)

Andy H

Could be another Turkdean, one of my favourite TT Roman digs

Matthew Hauck

This sounds like a most fascinating location/ story

Steven Meeks

This is the perfect Time Time project.

Garret Olds

Sounds like a winner for so many different reasons! Personally, I love villas, but I know that they've been done before. That said, the opportunity to demo new technology and techniques, plus work to help set something up for the future, combined with ease of access and supportive landowners... Great place to start.

heith Doty

I'm kind of with Jim, ahh not another vila .

Colt G

Off topic but just want to quickly note, I had received my physical reward package for being an early backer and the thin packaging did not fare well in international shipping with both the pen and the pin poking through the envelope and being lost. Now I am not upset, nor am I requesting replacements as that's not why I back this project in anyway but just a note for any future physical reward offerings or if this packaging is used for the Time Team store that you may want to consider different packing solutions. Especially important for international shipping. Hopefully I was an isolated case. Anyway keep up the great work on bringing the show back!

Christopher

Find a mosaic for Sir Tony

Gary Mortimer

All the toys, bring all the toys!

"Blade" McMicking, D.I.

While I am very fond of the older sites, myself, nothing can beat the finds, structure, and solid developments of something as "recent" as Roman artifacts -- loving what I'm hearing about using all the varied new levels of tech now available, in order to leave a true legacy for the future. This plays well to Time Team's strengths!

Lisa Hicks

I love a Roman Site especially with new toys!

David Thorndike

I think that sites that carry on or expand the work of a local interest group or community are well worth considering. Apart from creating a good story I imagine they would give them extra encouragement and publicity and create greater interest in Time Team.

William F. Campbell

This seems a very worth while project! The show would appeal to a wide variety of viewers. I agree with the comment that it will generate more interest in Time Team.

Jennifer L Bryan

I'll never say, "uunhh, another villa." Too many unexpected things happen once they put shovel in ground. Always expect the unexpected!

Anne

This site does, as others have said, “tick all the boxes”. I think it would be a very interesting site to explore for those of us who are not professional archaeologists as well as the professionals. The use of the new technology would only enhance the exploration. I definitely believe this site would make a great Time Team programme.

Simone Fritzen

I like the possibility to coop with a university and to establish an educational project. That is - from my point of view - typical Time Team and I think that Mick would have loved it. It sounds like the perfect site to bring Time Team back to the public and to honor the great work TimeTeam did. 10

Jill Hobbs

Bring it on! Definitely sounds to have great potential.

Beth Dixon

I would love to see you do a villa with modern technology! I love the roman episodes, does anyone ever complain that you have done too many?

Alex Gregory

There are never too many villas! Each one is different and each one has a story. It’s all history and archaeology at the end of the day and usually very good quality.

Jennie Marlow

The Roman villas & prehistoric site are always my favorites.

Robert Boudreau

Shades of Turkdean and Withington. Ticks all the boxes for sure! This has sooo much potential. Not just the villa itself, but the chance of finding pre- and post-Roman connections to it, yeah, all boxes ticked. 10.

Eggs Ackley

Received mine in WA State, USA, in perfect condition so hopefully yours was an exception.

Chris Pylant

"Not another villa"? Never too many villas.

Keith Jackson

From Tim's description of this large site it sounds perfect for a Time Team Live programme. Given that means more bodies would be required, might the two Unis be persuaded to join in? That could reduce the costs, too. Go for it!

David Boon

Certainly in my top two and it is more than just another Roman villa. I love the idea of there being a legacy but wonder if time team can perhaps do more than one episode here and contribute directly to the legacy. If there is a question about the place of the Villa in the landscape in episode one that explores a wide ranging area, you would imagine the possibility of it uncovering features that might form a focus for further questions to be addressed in subsequent episodes. Often we get to see just a piece of the puzzle and are left wondering about the broader picture.

Erica Long

I'm currently watching tons of TT, and the episodes I'm loving are the ones with the university involvement. A longer term dig, where TT come in to put some more resources to bear, but where work continues after is the best. I would also love more follow-up episodes, or even clips like this. I would love for the team to do calls with researchers on some previous sites for updates, or for the team to discuss what's happened since, if any changes or further research have updated the theories about a previous site.

Michael Schneider

I think this is an excellent choice for the reboot.... apart from the fact I love the Roman villa landscapes, the community involvement is really a hook to excite interest in TT. Some of the best moments that are heartwarming in the original series is watching all the people from the community surround Tony at the end who have been there watching the dig. That level of civic engagement is what is really what time team has done to bring archeological interest to the forefront. I certainly know it has for my wife and myself!

Glenn J. Hill

I love this one ! :-) The possibility of the larger landscape being included, plus the community involvement is great. The landowner being fully on-board , university involvement and it not being a listed site/restricted on what could be dug are all pluses. #1 for my choice.

Robert Baker

Any good Pubs and Fish and Chip Shops nearby?

Sue Oldham

Love it! Especially interested in learning about the new technology and the legacy for local groups to follow up on.

Terri

I NEVER SAY "UGH A ROMAN VILLA" - I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!!

Christopher

You had me at Roman Villa.

Larissa Spiker

I'm up for anything that uses Stewart's skills! I'd love to see LIDAR play a large role in site evaluation.

Emily Lloyd-Gale

This villa is next door to me. I would love to help and be involved. I feel that if any patreons live within a 5 mile radius of a site, that that can ask to assist in some way or observe. After all, without all of us, these digs wouldn’t be happening. I’ve followed this site since it was discovered. Spoken to a lot of locals about it and even Mr Fiennes. I have a passion for it as it’s on my doorstep. Surely I could be permitted to assist??

Sue Jaiteh

Definitely - the Saye and Sele Arms just up the road :)
