What are you looking forward using to technology-wise, that maybe didn’t exist or was less well-developed while you were filming the original series? What extra insights will you get from developments in technology that weren’t available in the earlier years?

Mark Freestone

How many meetings have there been just to get to this point?!

Anthony cotton

How long will the geophysical survey take

Robert Wise

When should we expect to see initial video of the dig? (This is so exciting!)

Mark Freestone

Yep..I estimated 7.343 billion, so not far off…!

Lynn Edwards

Watching old Time Teams... "This wall is wide enough there must have been two storeys." Presumably, the upper storey was accessed via stairs. Is there evidence of stairs? Wooden or stone? What is left to be seen?

Le Scoob

What resolution/data increases has there been with the new geophys technologies compared to previous digs?

Frank Hoeppel

I’m curious to learn about the setup that must occur before the cameras start rolling - what did it take to get ready for the opening shot in the original series, and who’s is that changing with this version?

James Leighninger

I’ve always wondered about using artifacts such as pot shards and coins for precise dating. We have a few antiques dating back over 200 years, and know folks with antique coins. Do you assume people did NOT keep pots handed down generations (yes, I realize they do break) or that coins didn’t much outlive the king or emperor whose face is stamped on it?

Dorothy Africa

What will happen to these sites after the Time Team digs. Who will continue the work?

Beth

Will we see Phil again?

Paul Dent

Can you use the spectrometer to look at the elemental composition of pots? (and not just on metals). Much like oxygen isotope analyses, could that permit us to understand when and where the ceramic was made?

Randall Groncki

Where did all the dirt come from? Phil digs down about one meter and shows the different layers. They layers represent different points in time and the older ones are deeper. That one meter mark is about 400 years ago. So... where did all that dirt covering the whole country burying items deeper and deeper come from?

Ann Wagner

What other Iron Age sites are in the area that help you to understand what may have happened on your site?

Bart Remeeus

What kind of protective measures are taken after a mosaic has been dug up and found to be in excellent condition? (when refilling the trench and measures after the dig to ensure the survival of the mosaic)

Melissa Rybb

Oh my! Don't even know which dig is first! Don't know what to ask. Okay, will anyone be staying on site or everyone to nearby hotel?

David Evans

How are you all feeling today being back on a site for a Time Team dig after all the work you’ve done to bring it back!

Will Ho

How long has been set aside for the dig? Is it still 3 days?

Pamela Brotherton

Do the artifacts found at the site remain in the community? If not where do they go?

Mike Darby

This is no ordinary dig - it is Time Team - with the associated expectations, but are we going to hear a discussion that used to frustrate Tony, in that it is better NOT to dig. Like Tony I find it difficult to get my head around field archaeologists not digging things up, and not answering questions that are locked up in the ground...

Julie Ball

What would be your dream find?

Wolfgang Zenker

What is the soil composition on site and how do you expect this to influence preservation of objects? Like "soil is acidic, little chance for bones" or "high ground water table, might encounter waterlogged organic remains"?

Scheenagh Harrington

Mine might be a bit silly, but I've often wondered, watching teams scrape away, how do your knees and back feel afterward? Do you do any exercises to support them or wear pads or something? Is it just part and parcel of the job?

Thomas Nyvell

Who is going to be the presenter of the comming programs?

Paul

Hello, thank you for allowing me to ask. Since Tony will not be hosting/presenting, may I suggest Alex Langlands. He has really proved himself capable and shares the passion. Has a replacement for Tony been discussed. Thank you and make it a great day!

Diane S Ratliff

No question just wanted to say how wonderful it is that Patreon supporters (we) are giving this opportunity. Thanks. And also I can't think of a question now. But I have read and liked several for which I would like answered.

Leah Kotok

Are they any plans to re-geo-phys some of Time Team's past sites using this new technology? Or has this already been done? Will we be able to see comparisons between the old version of geo-phys and the new?

Erik Verhofstad

The one thing im quite curious about, is what the biggest things were that happened in the (proffessional and/or personal if they want) lives of the experts since way back when?

William F. Campbell

If the large piece of samian ware shown some time ago and sherds of amphorae are connected to this site, please review the provenance of these finds and what they currently tell us of their origin and implications for the dig.

Mark Cooke

Is the term Iron Age a useful label given the length of time it covers and the Absence of Iron Age iron and regional difrences

Charles Featherstone

Watching almost all of time team, I was wondering what happened to all the replicas of finds that have been produced over the years.

Michael Louk

What sort of “creature comforts” does the team enjoy having around to keep up morale?

Neville Warner

The way the very small pottery shards are identified has always fascinated me. Can there be a session on the specific characteristics that are the identifiers please.

Heidi Howell

Non-archaeologists do archaeology as a hobby, what hobbies do your archaeologists enjoy?

Ted Black

When, if ever, do you expect to enter the "new dig every fortnight" mode that characterized the original Time Team for so long?

Doug Mackey

Who is our Presenter(s)? 😊

Alana Tolstad

Who has funniest recollections of the team members off-camera moments?!

Matt Duston

Earlier posts talked about how Tony Robinson would be involved with the show but not the full-time presenter. He was always one of my favorite parts of the old show - can you speak to what his role may be in the new?

Dan & Elena Wilczynski

Phil Harding was one of favorites on the show---does it look like he will have any part of this new show??

Richard Moss

How do you decide which archaeologist supervises which trench? Is it a scramble to see who can bag the most promising on paper (or geophys), or is there some thought about whose expertise will be best for which trench? I often wondered how they decided which trench to put Phil, Carenza or Helen in? It's all very exciting. Also with no Phil, who's researching the local beer with John?

Þe Carnian Pluvial Event

Considering the rise in popularity of slow TV, would Time Team ever consider doing a whole day video? Or perhaps a blooper reel of each season or dig could be put together so we can see more of the team having a good time, which has always been one of my favourite parts of Time Team.

the polish dude

I know its a hard job but Please Phil do an appearence at least I understand the body wearing out, I am a 75 year old farmer and shoveled a lot of waste in all my years. Please make the effort Phil , we all love you. Thanks Farmer Rich.

Eddie Eggerts

Have Time Team digs usually be recognized by Universities and archeological institutions as professional digs which could be cited in school books?

Michael Louk

Does anyone (or perhaps several people) from the team have a spooky or just plain weird story to tell from any of the TT digs?

Eggs Ackley

As time goes by and new digs develop is there a plan to recruit/rotate any of the previous TT crew of archeologists/diggers (not already mentioned) to participate. I would love to be surprised at seeing all the old faces (bums) down in the trenches.

Mike Tedham

Why is it that so many people seem to be able to comment on (and therefore presumably view) the content on this site when they aren't actually supporting Time Team?

Kristin Taggart

I'm catching up on past episodes, and I love seeing how you often work with community archaeological groups. What kinds of information do you leave them with at the end of a dig to allow them to carry on work?

Wolfgang Zenker

I think the profile view on Patreon is not that reliable. Looking at your profile, it says that you support no one. What do you see when you look at mine? it *should* show that I support 8 creators, but I have no idea if it does.

Sherry Cartmill

After the 3 days the Team digs a site, how often is the investigation continued by other groups?

George McCollister

Was there often a lot of good footage filmed for the TV series that was not put into the aired episodes? Sometimes when watching old episode they cut away from the archeologists when they start engaging in a discussion and I can't help feeling left out. This makes me wonder if there is a lot of other interesting content which was recorded but unused and if so if it has been preserved. If it has been preserved is there any chance some of it could ever be published either in short "extra" clips or in re-released "Directors Cut" episodes? If not is it due to legal encumbrance or simply lack of resources/interest?

Mike Tedham

It does show all 8 on yours and if I look at mine Time Team is there - so maybe it's just a glitch. Thanks for the reply.

John Turrell

It’s been a long time since you were all together for a dig, I know several of the team who were around when you last filmed some digs, how does it feel to be going back?

Steve Mikre

Does this dig have more personal sentimental value to the experts because it's the return of Time Team?

J-syn

We so know so much about Mike, Phil and of course Tony past but so little of Helen and Carranza's. Could we do a 15 or 20 minutes short with photos and and clips not of just the show but maybe some family footage of their past. Privacy permitting of course, it would be interesting to hear and see their stories of how they first realized they wanted to dig holes in the ground searching for old stuff. Did they do excavations as a child like Mike did documenting what they found? How were they approached to do their first ever episode and any interesting and/or fun stories around that time? Who are their Archeology Hero's/Mentors, aside from Mike? I would find that interesting for each past and present Dig Team member.

Don Cook

Have any of the Time Team experienced "time slips" when they're on site? Is there an emotional connection to the site/finds that ever occurs? Or, is it an academic endeavor only?

Beate Heinze

Has any of the Time Team dug up their own garden and found something special?

Graham Dombkins

When you decide where trench will go how do you decide how hard to start digging? What clues do you follow that say it’s ok to remove 30cm of ground vs time to take it easy and scrape away thin layers only?

Michael Louk

Will there be any detectorists involved on this dig? If so Who are they and what are they swinging?

Sam Batstone

If the team member could pick the biscuits for with the ever present tea which would they chose

Malcolm Wright

One for John. If the resistance machine measures voltage and converts it to resistance why do so many refer to resistivity which to be accurate needs to know the distance between the remote and moving probes. This distance is never measured.

Ingrid Mayer

Will there be some live streaming on Patreon if so when? Unfortunately I am working so can’t check all the time if something is on….When will the full episode ready to be shown online.? Can’t wait to see a new episode!,,,

Martha Berryman

I'm a Cultural Anthropologist, current American & 1800s Prussian histories. I am addicted to Time Team, old and new, watching everything at least thrice. But I always have a moment of irritation with Francis' terms of "ritual, ceremonial, processional" etc. They bring to mind a sort of film-engendered "zombies" of dim-witted peoples humming and following along to some sort of Crannock or Fougou or Mound. Perhaps they were, if anything like the snaking lines of consumers processionals into current-day shopping malls. But I think the communities and peoples of Neolithic ages were, for the most part, smarter than we Moderns--and as we increasingly find, better engineers, and perhaps more insightful ways of living, or intentions about "Quality of Life" with purpose and focus of that time, NOT an ambitious goal-driven 2021 fast-track. They were alert and engaged. They did not mindlessly hum and mumble their way along those discovered paths or access routes. Perhaps we could call those Significant Sites as being just that--We do not know more! How can we really have any, ANY informed idea WHY they were Significant except for our ASSUMPTIONS (the most dangerous word in Anthro/Archaeo/History??) Let's just label them as "SIGNIFICANT SITES. "

James Forrest

Has there been a particular dig over the years where you wish you had more than three days to dig on? If so where and why?

Skip A Apple

Would Phil Harding consider coming back to Time Team?

Jay R

Why aren't people involved doing more cross promotion on history podcasts and why isn't their a time team podcast I'm sure people would enjoy it, Helen would be the perfect host

bil Jeschke

There is a setting to hide your pledges in your profile settings at the very bottom of the page.

bil Jeschke

There was an episode where at least one site got scheduled because of their work, maybe more.

I an Merkin

Would we,as Patreon members, and covid/site health and safety permitted, come and watch,spectate..will even bring the biscuits for the tea..

Alex Huxley

How big is the dig? Numbers please, logistics. How many diggers, detectorists, support staff etc? Do they all arrive on site the day before? Is the site completely empty by day 4 or are they people still tidying up etc. How may in total involved on site and then in the months after with conservation, how many person-hours in total end to end for x1 Patreon Dig? Thanks! :)

Stephen Toland

I'd ask what's Carenza's favourite era to dig?

Mike Tedham

Ah - OK - that could explain it - thanks.

Sara Rowland

Please can you explain in more detail the how and why the Romans disappeared from Britain? It always sounds like they just one day woke up packed their bags and headed for the port. Why? What actually happened, over how many years? What decided that you were "Roman enough" to identify as Roman? After several centuries, why would they think Italy was their home, and not Britain? Did Roman DNA remain through the next generations of Britons?

James Matney

same question Skip asked is PHIL coming back

Martha Berryman

Alas, Roman Civilization observers note that 1. in the Early 400s AD, the powerful Rome had over-extended its conquering colonialism, straining their resources, some historians suggest "exhaustion." , 2. Other empires began to nibble at their weaker established areas, 3. back in Rome, bad leadership and disease, and 4. perhaps most significant for the sudden departures of Romans from English territory--their Supply Chain (like 2021 problems) was strained and then broken.. The Romans did not "go back home--" Home fell apart, quickly, surprisingly quickly. Adding to that decline, the East Britons seemed to welcome Germanic cultures at same time the West Britons had reconsidered and became intrigued with Roman-ness--almost like "cultural fads." DNA? Rome was already a global mixture--t'would be hard to establish a "Roman DNA" but certainly those generations of Global Citizens & Soldiers would carry their DNA forward.

Nina Surr

I always enjoy the shows where local children get involved in the field walking, sorting through the spoil, or the dig itself. Have any of those children from earlier episodes grown up to be archeologists? Do any of our old friends have children who have joined the field?

Dorothy Frank

I agree. I love it when tony would give them the hard time about "another ceremonial site"

Dorothy Frank

Have you checked out Wessex archaeology? They've got the site reports. I think I've seen some of them cited.

Dorothy Frank

I agree! Three days worth of work whittled down to 45 minutes leaves a lot out. Some sites have so much, I wish time team were a longer show!

Dorothy Frank

Marshalltown! Because they are forged. :)

DAS Bookbinding learning centre

What was the most ambiguous statement by one of the crew while describing what they had found? i.e. the biggest hedge!

Julie Turner

Following on from Nina Surrs' question, I too would love to know whether any children who have been involved in Time Team activities have joined the archaeology field.

Julie Turner

The "Naughty Nuns" episode had two delightful young girls, as well as their charming parents, taking part in that program. I have always wondered whether one, or perhaps both of those young girls were inspired to become archaeologists, or perhaps enter into a similar field of work. This is wishful thinking here, however, it would be great to know the answer to this question.

Barry Davis

Just how large of a area does the site cover, and what interesting things has geo phys come up with? How many trenches do you hope to open up? Are you and how will you use metal detectorist to help on this dig, if at all.

Christopher Samuel

With a dig like this is there any discoveries that may need to be embargoed for publication (or other reasons)? If I remember correctly there was an intent to scan the inside of the fogou - is that right? Will there be enough time during the dig itself to identify possible carvings/graffiti (either contemporary or later) from that data or would that be post-ex work? Also would those 3D scans be accessible to us online at some point?

Magnus Ekhall

How does this dig differ from a "normal" archaeological, day-to-day dig?

Margie Lewis

QUESTION?? since you can see climate change when you look at the past, Q. Is there any way to proof it. scientifically, with the gadgets that you use?

Margie Lewis

Can you visit sites that you have been to in the past for updates?

Max Hale

The Romans remember were an occupying force, here to sbow how far they could stretch their influence, control and administration. At each level of contour at the eges of the Empire it became more expensive and perhaps uneccessary to occupy the territory. An army is a costly machine in any era The Britans were highly influenced by the Roman culture, by the fifth century British life had changed much since occupation started in AD 43. Local tribes were in the main little bother to the occupation. However, the truth is that the Empire was on the decline all across Europe, pressures came as much from within as without. The trading and might of Rome was slipping it had to contract, cut its spending and look to saving its home territories

Carrie Beesley

I remember Mick talking about what he found in his garden once, I can't remember where I saw it

Jessica Page-Thomas

I find hundreds of ancient fossils (particularly gryphaea) in the fields on my farm - do you ever find ancient fossils and is that something you would consider excavating on a future dig?

Scott Graupner

Here's a question for throughout the dig: If Phil opened a pub, what would its name be?

Fern Wilcox

What would make Day 1 a "great" day? Or what is the biggest surprise of day one? Thanks and cheers from Fern in Minnesota, USA

Jude Edling

I love your geodesic dome. In the past, you've had tents blow away. The dome should be more stable. Who's idea was it and what's in it? I'm so excited about the project. It's keeping me busy while I await my first grandchild. Thanks and best of luck to all!

sue capps

Do the trenches have to be a certain length to start with

Ted Vaughan

Is this a scheduled site?

Gill Palmer

How early on can you begin to construct a narrative? What allows that to happen?

Tim Yen

Where is the site on Google earth? Just for interest sake I'd like to look it up.

Tim Yen

Is anyone going through the spoils pile with a metal detector?

Gill Palmer

I’ve been reading about indigenous ‘revisions’ of archaeological sites - is that a factor at this site?

Ian Thomson

My Question is more of a general interest in the careers of those taking part on time team over the years. It would seem that it has been a stepping stone for many to further advancement..

Alan McMillan

Is Phil Hardin with you on this dig?
