We're delighted to announce our initial 'longlist' of potential sites to investigate this year!

Time Team's friends and family have been sharing their suggestions with us and – we hope you'll agree – there are some very exciting prospects among the selection.

You may recognise some from earlier discussions, while others have snuck into the list at the eleventh hour. Over the coming months, we'll be sharing more details of the contenders, and we might even pick up a few more latecomers on the way!

With your help and feedback, we'll gradually whittle the selection down to our final 'shortlist' before excavations begin later in the year.

Look out for our 'First Impressions' poll – coming shortly.

(PLEASE NOTE: Here on Patreon, you're playing an active role in an ongoing process, and there are many complex factors to consider in planning a Time Team dig. At this early stage, we can't guarantee that every site on the list will ultimately be viable. What we can guarantee is a truly unique insight into the site selection and development stages as they unfold.)

Suggest Your Own Sites

We're regularly inundated with wonderful ideas for sites to investigate. So, we have now officially launched our 'Site Suggestion Form' to provide a formalised process for sharing your own sites. This will initially be available exclusively to Patrons.

Again, we can't make any guarantees of whether an excavation would be possible, but we will consider every suggestion and choose one Patron-suggested site to visit for initial investigation. Please provide as much detail as possible to help inform the selection process.

Access the form HERE.

It was a happy day for me when I discovered Time Team. I I miss an episode i know that will be another one shortly. I feel as if I have watched the team grow up and older [ like me ]. MATT, YOU'VE been a joy to watch. Carry one. If you run out of sites in Great Britain there are many sites in the Pacific North West and Vancouver Washington . I have room and hot showers for a couple of you diggers. Miss Phil but I hear that he is busy in a new job. I am a sponsor, how could I not be. Good digging and great finds. As a "Mediaevalist" when it comes to pottery and a WW2 archaeologist anything that covers those gets my vote - especially over yet another Roman site (even though one of my PhD supervisors is a certain Tony King who helped with the Roman temple dig you did).

Carole Cox

Almost too many to pick! I like the Tudor Palace. I do realize that in comparison there may not be a lot of new information to be found. Not a fan of cemetery sites. Just a personal feeling. I do realize that they have information to offer - sometimes. To be certain, we need more information.

Paul Dent

For me, it's Dorchester. The transition between Romano-Britain to what would become Anglo Saxon Britain is arguably THE key inflection point in our island history over the past 3,000 years. And relatively, we know very little about that period.

Justin T Donie

So many excellent choices to consider, I'm very much looking forward to the chance to learn more and cast my vote. This is just such a wonderful process. :D

Hunt

So many exciting sounding possibilities, and nice to see so many anglo-saxon options. It's going to be hard to decide!

John Matthew IV

Looks like many great options for this year. It will be hard to pick just two.

Susie Stockton-Link

Looking forward to getting as much info as possible on each one - but how to choose?! I'd be interested to know more about the Yorkshire forest one. From a more sober point of view, it would be a Brownie point for posterity to look at any site that is in danger of inundation from rising sea levels. How many feet above high water are the Scilly and East Anglian / Lincolnshire ones, I wonder?

100%. I'm just in the midst of reading 'The Material Fall of Roman Britain' and it's both so fascinating and highlights just how little there is (and how much archaeology provides in the way of information).

Martin Packer

I don't know whether the finances support this - but I'd like to see more than 2 sites (even if it's only 3). A sense of progress and expansion would be a great thing. I like the idea of a return to a previous site with more modern techniques. I would be biased towards Dorchester as opposed to the seaside Roman Fort: Because it could be used alongside the other Time Team digs in the area (such as Wittenham Clumps) to create an "archaeological swathe". Dorchester and Wittenham have, of course intertwined history. Also, finding the Roman Road out of Dorchester in both directions would be rather nice. e.g. There must have been a Thames crossing.

Jean Buckley

I just want to come along on your walk through the Yorkshire forest…😭

Nina Surr

I'm intrigued by the northern forest site, I am not sure why. But I do look forward to the site wrestle sessions. At the moment my answer is All Of The Above

Ann H

Intriguing but hard to whittle down without more detail. Helen's site, boat and all, gets an early vote from me. The norseman with American ties, maybe. Not so keen on the Tudor site (too many hard to see architectural plans on youtube are not visually a win?).

James

All looks mouth watering. Eanswyth especially but I'm happy just to be part of the experience. Good news about Emily!

Steve Atkins

Exciting times again. I loved the process last year and this season looks just as exciting. Bring it on...

Mark Horn

For me it’s Dorchester and the Tudor palace. Whatever is picked I can’t. 😀

James D Speckart

I'm hoping for the Tudor palace so we get a lot of high energy Jonathan, and I'd like to see a multi-period site that has potential to tie directly into current social issues, either because the site is in a town that is seeing a lot of change right now, or because the target period+location helps us understand how past societies dealt with untrustworthy rulers/war/pandemics/technological revolutions. Hopefully, I mean, assuming there's anything in the ground!

Conan Mills

As exciting as Greece is, it may be worth holding off a bit. Get into the rhythm in UK fist then look abroad. I like the idea of revisiting previous sites from earlier TT episodes though. That could be fun.

Robert Boudreau

A big thank you to Emily for coming on and staying aboard. That's great news. In my opinion, the people who have given so much to Time Team over the years, Carenza, Helen, John and Stewart, the sites they pick should be at or near the top of the list. They've given time and expertise to we viewers for so many years, it would be fitting for them to have a chance to use the Team on something they're interested in. Much as you queried people in the past Tim, "If I gave you Time Team...", here's a chance to do just that for people who have truly earned it.

Robert Wise

The Yorkshire forest site sounds mighty interesting! Does such long term occupation muddle the archeology too much?

Richard Wesson

They all sound very interesting, but for me anything Roman is good.

Louise Bannister

A hard choice! I CD would have preferred a choice of three. I am excited to see the results! Best wishes to all of the team (Lou from Canberra, Australia).

Mark Lund

Oh, jeez! Yes, almost all of them! My personal opinion is TT should see how it goes for a couple of years at least in the UK before going abroad. I dont know how healthy the TT treasury is at the moment, but you need to stay 'local' ...there is so much here to investigate. (Perhaps selfish considering all the out of UK support I admit). My favourites, without any real educated research or other than basic knowledge, is Dorchester, having read a Current Archaeology article, and living in Oxfordshire until recently, there is still much to find out there. Also the multi phase forest sounds intriguing. But, If they are native trees, dont fell them unnecessarily! Of course you wouldnt. But, I would love to see the A/S burials, Roman villas...again, revisit an old TT site. dont bin any of them...less interested in the tudor palace but would still love it if it was excavated I'm sure. Sorry, that went on a bit.

Kieran Gane

They all look so good! I will be happy with whatever choice is made.

Elizabeth B Hess

and I must say that TIm's conservatory looks glorious - a welcome sight for a dark February day

Doug Mackey

So pleased and proud of this good work.

Gary Pike

The forest site would be a challenge, but perhaps much would have been protected in that environment?

Timothy Pearce

So sad to see nothing from Wales in the long list. Hope that fake site many series ago hasn’t put you off!
