Our Knights Hospitaller preceptory dig has drawn to a close, and we're busy cataloguing finds, filling in trenches and returning home.

We're now collating all of our behind-the-scenes content (photos, videos, models and more) to share with you in due course. In the interim, we hope you enjoy these quick snapshots taken over the weekend.

Many of us hadn't seen each other since our 2021 digs, so there was much catching up to do. Despite some rain, thankfully the downpours we had expected didn't fully materialise.

Thank you for all your fantastic questions, which Derek and Lawrence put to Stewart Ainsworth, Helen Geake and Hilde van der Heul. Look out for their responses in our upcoming Spoil Heap Q&A sessions.

We have captured a range of fascinating insights, providing unrivalled insight into the archaeology and production process. All will be revealed in our full Dig Watch coverage, coming soon.

We expect to return to our usual coverage directly from the site for the next dig, and we will announce our revised timetable shortly.

And last but not least, thank you again for your patience and understanding, following the unexpected passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Great to see some early photos…and it’s fab to have the gang back! You must have been very sure that the preceptory was actually there; was the documentation pretty accurate? or did you have to redraw the map…like the Cheney Manor/palace episode from season 15/16?

auszzz

Great pics, can't wait, and John looks much more like his old self with his beard trimmed! Looking good people.

James Leighninger

You certainly know how to keep us all in suspense!

Nigel Bell

And just which soliloquy was Matt engaging in to keep the troops entertained? 😊

Kate

A lot of expertise and brains in that group photo. I know you all have day jobs, but it's great to see you back together as an archeological think tank to intrigue us. Here's to learning more about Hospitallers (I know nothing except what I found online) from the best in the business.

Gloria Carbaugh

It is wonderful to see the smiles and all the cogs turning! Can hardly wait to hear the voices!

Robert Wise

Nice to see you all out in the field again!

Paul

Yes to all the smiling!😃

Freda Bradley

Love the seat Stewart is sitting on. I'd sit there, too. :)

Mark Vent

I'm not looking in a hole! ... I'm "inspecting a trench" 😂

Nameri Verdstela

No Natalie Haynes? I know she’s touring a book at the moment but I’m sad not to see her in these pictures.

Robert Boudreau

Stewart "Mr. Paper, Pencil and Maps" Ainsworth with a tablet? Times have certainly changed!

Mike Darby

Now it's really here!

gary hipkiss

I can't put into words how much i look forward to time team, it's shows, the people, everything about it. :-)

Ellen Blackstone

Carenza! And ... I'm almost afraid to ask... where's Phil?

Bob Blaskiewicz

Have you tried the pub? Perhaps one near a pile of flint flakes?

Eve

Love these pics, my favorite is the chapel entrance. Can't wait to see more, happy digging.

Bob and Pam

Outstanding, really looking forward to seeing more. GO TIME TEAM!!

Dorothy Frank

Missed the daily live updates and dig watch, so am glad to hear you plan to have them on the next site(s?)! Tho I do understand why this site was not live, I am sorry for the loss of the Queen.

Jill Bray - Author

Thanks for sharing these pictures. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of the dig in the coming days and weeks. Thank you also for being so respectful to Queen Elizabeth this weekend. It's appreciated.

Elessa Wylde

Same. I was looking through the images for her.

Jude Edling

Thank you! It feels like dear friends sharing their holiday adventures.

Lyle Walker

Tantalising pictures, I can't wait to see more. It looks like the team is working hard, though the cameraderie shows in people's faces.

Carl Johnson

Great pictures. Some of those pictures need to be turned into memes.

Ann Wagner

Matt found a little doohickey! Can’t wait to find out what it is and what it and all the other finds mean. Have you figured how to say hospitaller yet? It is wonderful to see you all doing what you love. We love it, too!

Kerry Hennigan

Stewart is smiling in the photo where everyone is looking at the geophyis results; I'm hoping that means his expectations are being met for the site! I'm really excited about this dig (and the one(s) to follow). Thanks Time Team!

Laura Rash

Thanks so much for bringing history alive for us all again. Can't wait for the full show!

Richard Sherwood

Not sure John Gator is looking at geophys data, he is looking online for the nearest pub with decent real ale and good food.

Tor Ravengael

Emily Boulting is striking the classic "Director pointing at something" pose that all directors are required to do for publicity photos.

Kay Theriault

I'm so excited to see what comes out of this year's digs, and DO tell us about the local pubs, too! :D

Jack Jenkins

excellent photos - as a photographer I appreciate the work that individual put into this. 2023 can't get here soon enough.

Charr Skirvin

(Warning: This is going to be a little long.) I love Time Team. I'm looking forward to these two new digs. However, my husband and I were just discussing how we miss the enthusiasm and energy of the original presenter (Tony, of course.) The current presenters are lovely people, but they don't move the narrative along like Tony did. (We know that Tony opted out.) Also, as paying patrons, we've been looking forward to photos that reveal more than groups of people standing in fields. We ARE thankful that someone finally decided to feature the talents and knowledge of Stewart Ainsworth. OK - I feel better now. :-) Let's keep digging.

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Charr, thanks very much for your thoughts. Just to note, out of respect we have paused our full dig coverage until after the Queen's funeral. We're also looking forward to sharing all the news, once our normal programming resumes. We've long recognised the talents and knowledge of Stewart, and the incredible site he has selected for us won't disappoint! Thanks for your patience during this unprecedented time.

camakarma

Love all the photos - thank you so much! I think you are doing an awesome job of keeping everyone updated and involved. There are so many moving parts and I am sure it can be very challenging at times. Keep up the great work - psyched to see everything 👍🙌

Mario Papworth

Great photos I can't wait to see the new episodes.

Kerry Hennigan

Love the photos... some of them are ripe for a "caption this" competition for your Patreon followers!!!

Louise Findlay

Can't wait for more, keep up the good work!

DIANA R NELSON

Really enjoy seeing the photos, but they are taking a long time to load. Perhaps a lower resolution?
