We're rewinding back now to our Knights Hospitaller preceptory dig at Halston, when we caught up with Stewart Ainsworth in the Mickmobile.

Armed with your questions, Derek and Lawrence quizzed Stewart on subjects ranging from the Hospitallers' postal service to whether LiDAR has made him obsolete. Over to Stewart... no pressure!

Always insightful. Thanks Time Team

Thank you for answering my question about Lidar! No offense was meant to Stewart, but I hoped to hear how (and did!) how he uses this amazing new technology!

It is heartening to realize the efforts of Time Team in the first twenty-some years was inspirational to members who are now part of the new Time Team. Those of us who learned about the value and excitement of archeology through the early Time Time videos can once again experience the excitement vicariously through the many excellent presentations. For me, this is the next best thing to being there. Many thanks, Time Team!

I found Time Team far after I got my degree (I went medical) but took an archeology elective as a science class. I so enjoy pursuing that passion I developed through both the classic, and the new Time Team. I am also a disabled veteran and would LOVE to do an Operation Nightengale dig!

Another great interview and insightfull review of how these digs come about and what it means to those taking part. keep them coming and lets hope we rech the 10,000 patrons you aim for. Yes Time team started it but this will take it to another level as it is people powered

Around 15:09 Stewart was answering the question about how messengers got around England and to Rome. He rather stated that there doesn't appear to be an answer to that question, although there do appear to be audits. I've asked the question before about how does the money raised get to Jerusalem, or Rome. Is it thru bankers? actual cash /jewels etc on horseback and or via the sea? I've never had an answer to my question, and I would still like one.

Stewart is inspiring. His ability to look at the landscape and put it into the context of the project is inspiring Thanks

Fabulous, informative Q&A. Great questions expertly answered. It's great to be a part of what makes this possible.

Dr Richard Mellish

I'm a little bemused that you have only now published this Q&A session from the beginning of the dig. I would be more interested in a follow up discussion of what was finally learnt from the dig and what questions remain.

Each time I watch these videos I feel privileged to be a founding member. This conversation touched on all the reasons why we are contributors: fascinating questions and answers, reflections from an expert we have known for decades, young archaeologists who respect the experience of their colleague! I also love the dynamics in the conversation, how words and narrative, flow naturally among the speakers! And it was lovely that in that conversation they usually find the opportunity to say thank you to us, the viewer. It’s a nice experience. I congratulate the whole team and of course, Mr. Taylor for his visionary leadership.

Hi, unfortunately, the original audio quality of this interview wasn't great, but thanks to some newer tools, we've cleaned it up to make it available now! The team had a follow up discussion after the dig here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/s22-knights-live-81186563 Post-excavation research and reporting are still ongoing, and we'll continue to update you on the latest developments as that progresses. During each dig, we often film extras that for various reasons we can't share until after the episode airs. Look out for more extra insights from recent digs, still to come. Thanks
