“War. War never changes. Aren’t you tired of it? Tired of swinging your tail to send the divine Volley of a Thousand Needles at the corrupted Lords of the Deep and their sinister Legions of Shadow? We all know the same struggle.”

— Guerron Sabre, Extremely Relatable

Created by forgotten warlords of the Upper Planes during the Epoch of Blood, these stalwart soldiers are the last vestiges of an ancient war against darkness. Thousands of noble warriors perished in the conflict, but those who survived were left to wander with nothing but their lust for battle, crusading against whatever was in the vicinity, from demons to dragonflies.

Golden Battalion. Mantiroars possess a divine gift—the power to conjure radiant weapons with naught but a thought. These golden armaments burned through countless enemies in their glory days, but hopelessness and time have decayed them to mere shadows of what they once were. This despair leaches into the land itself, turning the ground to ash and degrading the steel and bronze of other arms. Despite this dark outlook, a bladeborne mantiroar will still fight tooth and claw and hoof and sword and lance and javelin in any form of conflict.

Built for War. Every part of a bladeborne mantiroar’s anatomy is designed for battle: hooves like hammers, tails like lances, and fur made of tiny, excruciatingly-grown blades. Historians and biologists have long argued about where mantiroars get the metal to produce their weapons-grade fur. The leading theory is that mantiroars eat weapons as food, though no researchers have lived to report this behaviour.

Living Relic. During the Epoch of Blood, mantiroars were both feared and respected, but that perception deteriorated along with the warriors, slipping away until the monstrous soldiers were all but forgotten. After centuries, the few who still remembered began preaching of their glory, building a devoted cult of worshippers who believed these lost instruments of the gods would herald in a new golden age. Embarking on a grand pilgrimage, they bowed before their idols, offering tithes of weapons and gold. Their praises turned into screams as they were massacred en masse, leaving the mantiroars to drift off into obscurity once more.
