The allure of ancient, unknowable powers is formidable, but the repercussions are implacable and permanent. Voidspawn cloaks wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the meddling of wizards and fashion designers, but meddle they did, and now entire towns are engulfed in starlight and madness because someone wanted a statement piece.

Blood of the Ancients. In a bygone time, ancient wizards and arcane runway models imbued their cloaks and robes with the potent ichor of a long dead god from the outer realms of madness. No one batted an eyelid when the robes first moved on their own, and it wasn’t until they started turning into monsters that the arcanists decided the powers weren’t worth the potential cost. To protect the world, they stashed the remaining clothing in the darkest, least accessible location they could find: the weird, hard to reach back corners of their closets.

Maddening Couture. The mind of a dead god is already far beyond most  understanding, so cloth made sentient via the decomposing blood of said dead god is somehow even more inscrutable. Granted the gift of life, these ponderous creatures sail across the landscape aimlessly, filling the night with stars and horror, clothing the poor people who encounter it with its nebulous fabric. Those draped in these strange folds are driven mad by fashion beyond mortal comprehension.

Cut of the Cloth. While the original ritual used to create the cloaks was thankfully lost to time, it’s suspected that the mature creatures can reproduce somehow. Legends and songs state that the original robes were a limited-edition, serialized run, but there have been far more incidents than the serial numbers suggest. The leading theory is that a mature voidspawn cloak can cut parts of itself off to leave as cloaks on lost-and-found racks and in secondhand stores, waiting for some unsuspecting hero to start wearing it around.
