[MW Pokemon] Grief Jinn - CR 11 Large Construct (Jinn) - $10 Reward (Patreon)

“I don’t care if they’re priceless relics of history. If we don’t break a couple pots, the pots are going to break us!”

— Linkell, Doesn’t Belong in a Museum

A hand-sculpted, hand-painted vase found deep within an ancient tomb could contain any number of things—ointments, organs, ashes, treasure, the sentient manifestation of grief and loss, anything really. The only way to find out is to open it up!

Shadow of Death. Few occasions carry the emotional weight and density of a funeral. Fear, anger, and despair all pour out as tears over the resting place of the departed, charging tombs, cemeteries, and mausoleums with vast amounts of emotional energy. It’s no wonder the loss of a loved one draws jinn from the Imaginal Plane. Grief jinn are imprinted on by the feelings of the grievers as well as the lingering wishes of the departed, manifesting as guardians at the gravesite after the mourners have moved on.

Jumbled Vessels. Lacking corporeality, grief jinn make bodies for themselves out of the accoutrements of the dead. Canopic jars, urns, and even coffins act as flesh and bone to the jinn. Any vessel will do, but these jinn favour those with heavy decoration and depictions of deities, rearranging them frequently to suit the mood. Some jinn prefer to wear a cohesive set from the same tomb while others mix and match pottery from different millenia.

Last Wishes. Though a grief jinn may witness and resonate with the feelings of many funerals and families, the strongest emotions form its personality and intent. Blame, anger, and a thirst for justice may twist a grief jinn into a vengeful spirit. Bittersweet pride and a sense of tradition can turn one into a steward of a family’s legacy. Most grief jinn, fed by a wish for loved ones to find peace and rest in a better place, become watchful sentinels, silently defending their resting places from intruders and nosey historians.
