“I see your path. You’ve crossed mountain and sea to be here. I also see moments of strong emotion at a ‘Burrito Queen?’ And another one on the lake’s edge. Oh. That’s also… why have you spent multiple hours at twenty six different ‘Burrito Queen’ locations?”
— Rashak the Cartographer
With legendary attention to detail, the poshengu clan can trace out the paths of each traveller they meet. Both warriors and cartographers, their maps outline the dangers, hidden paths, and snippets of stories gathered from hundreds of trails criss-crossing the land.
The Lost Clan. In a great twist of retrospective irony, the poshengu began as a clan of caelipsid entomorphs who became deeply, hopelessly lost. Their first maps were made out of desperation in an attempt to find a way home, but they had already wandered too far, finding themselves in the forests of the Yokai Realms instead. Consigning themselves to their fates, they appealed to the forest denizens, the tengu, for aid. The tengu, drawn by curiosity and a respect for the clan’s resolve, took them in and began to teach the poshengu their arts of weaponry, tracking, and magic.
Finding the Path. After generations of tutelage under the tengu, the poshengu have mastered a psionic art of their own. With a gentle touch, a poshengu can peer along the path of any traveler they meet, seeing it wind like a line across a map. They view these meditative visions as a gift to be shared, and most use their powers to find the lost and forsaken of the world and guide them home. A few may travel back to the home their ancestors once lost, but most have grown to love the life of a nomad, explorer, and guide.
One Grand Journey. The poshengu believe that the entire world exists along a single, winding path, and that each person walks a small portion of that endless road over the course of their life. This belief is symbolized by a golden ring, a path with no beginning or end. Poshengu art, fashion, and weaponry all feature the ring, as evidenced by their preference for chakrams in battle. They salute those they respect by crossing their arms and clashing the rings on their forearms together, a gesture to demonstrate their gratitude that your path has crossed theirs.
