[MW Batch X-4] Garoyasha - CR 5 Large Monstrosity (Lycanthrope) - $10 Reward (Patreon)

“A hunger for the dark and strange / ignites along its darkened mane. / By night it hunts with violet flame. / Its bony blade will cut them down, / so cower when the moon is round.”

— Lines from the Elegy of the Consumed

The bite of a werewolf can transfer the curse of lycanthropy to surviving victims, but also carry something of the victim into the werewolf. In cases where a lycanthrope develops a taste for magical creatures, the ingested magic can ignite into smoke and phantom flame under the light of the moon.

Yokai Eater. The typical werewolf subsists on a diet of pure meat while transformed, feasting on the local fauna. In the Yokai Realms, that local fauna includes a wide variety of yokai. While lacking in traditional macro nutrients, yokai provide high quantities of magical energy—enough for a predator to sustain itself, albeit with some strange side effects. Bony horns and plates protrude through the fur in protective layers while wicked blades curve out from the arms. The altered form evokes the image of an oni or a samurai, and experts on lycanthropy believe the form reflects the natures of the more violent yokai the garoyasha has consumed manifesting through the curse.

Lunar Dust. Changes to the transformation aren’t the only side effects of a garoyasha’s diet; the magical energies don’t digest the same way as food and exit the body in unusual ways. For werewolves, this magic manifests as a flaky dander-like substance that accumulates on their fur, commonly referred to as lunar dust. Imbued with yokai magic and the lycanthropic curse, this dust is energised with a violet glow under direct moonlight, igniting when catalysed by an impact.
