"I admit that in the past I've been a nasty..." In my young villains series I wanted to explore Ursula's sordid past. Somewhat officially, she is King Triton's sister and once lived in the palace, as she mentions in the film. I imagine that she was involved in political intrigue under the sea and on land- meddling in human matters, hence the human clothing.

Beautiful work :) I have heard two schools of thought on Ursula's origins discussed by fans: 1.) She isn't King Triton's sister, (it was an idea in an earlier script) and came from a family of mer-people who have tentacles instead of fish tails. Her sister Morgana mentioned that Ursula was always their mother's favorite, indicating they learned magic from their mom, and that she was evil too. 2.) She is King Triton's sister, but she did something during her time at the royal court that caused Triton disown her and banish her from Atlantica, and her practice of dark magic warped her from a mermaid into the octomaid we see today.
