-Thank you DCRangeRange, Dean Dexter and Cannedbread -The scream had come from inside the forest, so it was hard to pinpoint its location... but at the very least, it wasn’t from the west side.

And it did sound like a child’s scream, but... there’s no way one would be in a place like this, so naturally, it was a monster’s voice.

Which means...!

"Of course it’d turn out like this!?"

Not only the monsters at the water source, but even the monsters I’d avoided without getting caught by up until now were drawn in by that voice and all started making a commotion at once.

The herds that heard it seemed to be threatening each other, and the noise kept spreading further and further.

"This is bad, huh...?"

There aren’t any monsters flying in the sky right now, so it’s possible for me to fly all the way out of the forest in one go, but if I do that, what’ll happen to the monsters that started making all this noise...?

I don’t know what happened, but if the noisy herds start fighting each other, or if they all scatter through the forest at once, this’ll get out of hand.

If it were the middle of the night, that’d be one thing, but at this time of day, there are people traveling along the highway, so I have to avoid that kind of situation.

I’d better go into the forest too and control the situation to some extent.

"For now... I’ll start with the herd closest to me!"

I descended into the forest and charged toward the herd screaming nearby.

The monsters threatening each other seemed to have eyes only for one another, and they didn’t notice me coming at them from behind or overhead until just before I struck.

Thanks to that, even though this was a place beyond the shallows of First Forest, I was able to easily clean them up herd by herd.

Of course, the herds themselves were all small, only a few monsters each, and the monsters in those herds were made up of relatively easy-to-fight races like goblins and orcs... but for the moment, I’m gradually reducing the noisy herds.

"For now... if I keep cleaning up the especially loud ones first, things might calm down eventually!"

After checking my surroundings and confirming there weren’t any monsters nearby, I quickly left the area.

They’re not making noise because they were attacked. This only happened because some kind of scream triggered it, so if I keep taking care of the noisy herds, it should settle down soon enough.

More importantly...

"I wonder what that first thing was. If it belonged to a herd, that herd should be moving a lot more, but... I don’t see anything like that in particular..."

While searching for the next herd, I thought about the monster that had let out the first scream and what had caused it.

It wasn’t just a simple roar. There was a fair amount of force to it, or maybe... pressure, like I felt something out of the ordinary from it.

That’s why the forest has gotten this noisy, so I doubt it was just my imagination.

"...It does bother me, but I can’t even pinpoint the location in the first place, so settling this commotion comes first. That one’s next!"

I found a herd roaring as a whole toward the east side, so I left the area for the moment in order to circle around behind them.

After crushing two more herds, I noticed that the forest was gradually becoming quieter.

It doesn’t seem like anything was really happening in the first place either... so I guess this is what happens when I reduce the especially noisy herds.

"I don’t know what happened, but for now, it doesn’t look like the commotion’s going to spread outside the forest. I guess I’ll take a look at the pond too..."

I’d ended up pretty far from the point where I’d first been, but I began moving toward the area where the pond was again.

"...Hm?"

On the way, I found some bushes that had been trampled flat.

When I looked, a hole several meters deep had been dug there, so it had probably been some monster’s den.

"It’s really been torn up. Did the monster hiding here come out because of the commotion just now? I don’t see it, so maybe it was among the herds I defeated."

When I looked through the forest again, I could see that many places had been disturbed compared to before the commotion started.

It was probably the result of monsters moving around, ones I hadn’t been able to find while I was flying overhead.
