"The only place I can feel free is where I can see the mountains stretched out for miles in front of me."

March's Riso print is headed out this week! Along with the sticker sheet for March's patrons too! If you paid on March 1st you'll be receiving these packages depending on your tier!

Had a little more Riso drama this time around- this time with the Fluorescent Orange drum that actually exploded while printing February's prints and I was able to fix it at the beginning of the month to finally print the rest of those and get this Mountain Dreams print started! I think we identified the source for the ink explosion, so hopefully it won't happen again. There was dried, old ink in the drum, so with that cleared out we should be in better shape in the future with no more errors from fluo orange!!

Riso Print - Mountain Dreams

This was a rare print where I only needed a few edits to get the colors right! And when I made the file I was expecting it to be in fluorescent pink, but I changed it last minute to fit with the Terrain Dreams series! Here are all three that I have so far together.

I'm particularly fond of this print because I grew up near the mountains and feel like they're calling to me everyday. Que John Denver's Take Me Home Country Roads song.

This is a more unique mountain top view, though! I combined fantasy elements with my experiences hiking mountains in Northern California/Yosemite, The Smokey's, Southern Appalachia, Iceland (moss everywhere!!), and Yamanashi, Japan. While the Desert Dreams print was a very specific desert view, I wanted to make this one more universal, with elements from all over my favorite mountain hikes.

"life is old here, older than the treeeees"

Now I've got it stuck in my head. Ah had to add bears!! Little black bears are an important part of any forest.

Here's a fun side by side of what the digital mock up vs the Riso final looks like!

That natural white paper really softens the prints and harmonizes the colors.

I love this little corner with the Danger sign, the copper head, porcupines and a Rhododendron tunnel similar to Craggy Gardens in North Carolina.

Here's the breakdown for this print!

It's also attached so you can see it closer if you need!

This print went through a few different runs- I even tried a fluorescent pink version just in case!! But ultimately loved how the fluo orange looked with the blues and greens.

Originally I wrote 'Summit 5,000 Ft.' on the sign board, had a slightly less bright mist from the waterfall, the original had darker blues all together, and the trees were a little too light, making the variations uninteresting, I thought. So The final has a nice frame and and overall softer tone.

Sticker Sheet!

Here's the original design for the stickers, I loved pulling these little guys from the Campfire Stories print and brightening them up a little. All together it's 12 stickers on a 7 x 4 1/2" vinyl sheet.

Here's a little close up of the piece, and here's that final Riso print-

Let me know if you have any questions!! These should be shipped out this weekend and early next week- keep an eye out for them if you paid on March 1st!

++Support tiers will be receiving a coloring page of this print and some extra behind the scenes prints- plus some dot tests for a new Riso dot print I'm in the middle of making!!

Thanks so much xoxo nat

😍 how do you do it!? So gorgeous!! ✨

Natalie Andrewson

Aw thank you! I have a lot of feae that the final I choose might not be the right one, but I have to trust that immediate gut reaction that something isn't quite right, interrogate why and then trust that a changed version is the best work that I can make. <3

I signed up for a risograph class this summer! Do you have any tutorials/resources you recommend to check out?

Hi Natalie, I'm new to your art but I am honestly so in love. I backed the artbook right after I saw the cover on Pew's insta account! Can't wait to receive it and I hope the spotted ink can replicate your riso print. I have a question and hope it is okay. Im a new patreon from April and I was wondering if for example I only pledged for April, will I be able to see the process for April's print since it will only be shared by the end of May?

Natalie Andrewson

Hey! Ah I think you might not be able to see the process- I didn’t think about that!! I can send it to you separately though, send me a DM and I can screenshot it for you!!

Isai

i love your process and the way you document your work. gives me an idea of how to keep track of my progress in my personal designs!

Robbia Fezian

Hello(: I haven’t received the March print. I sent you an email

Natalie Andrewson

Hello Robbia! I don't think I got your email or DM! Did you send it to natalieandrewson@gmail.com? Definitely want to make sure you receive your print! Let's figure this out <3
