Hi everyone, thanks so much again for your patience as I navigate working a full time job while continuing my Riso Subscription. I'm all done with the print above, the colors are all separated and I'm going to print this piece today! I'll share more videos and photos/behind the scenes when it's all done but follow my stories on Instagram if you want to see them as they come in. I'm working on July and August's images now, hopefully will stagger them so I get July's print done next week and August's print out by the end of the month! Then I'll be back on track and sending out monthly prints again- fewf! So sorry for the delay and again, thank you so much for your patience.

As you can see from my last post where I shared the sketch for this, I changed this piece up a bit! Instead of 'at your service' it's more of an enchantment piece, I wanted a more Indiana Jones vibe where the main character has found the holy grail of tea leaves from this funny little Lizard genie. She's had to enter a dangerous space, full of chaotic lizards and sinking teapots. Slightly inspired by all the obstacle course TV my partner Andy has been watching, haha. I like that this one is kind of a mixed scene, with the face of the main character so intent on receiving the leaf while such goofy looking characters surround her. I love this style of storytelling, like Labyrinth and Dark Crystal. Here's a serious moment, with serious stakes for our beloved protagonist, while little creatures do silly things all around her. For some reason I'm much more drawn to scenes like this...maybe because I need something a little light hearted when I'm in anguish/a stressful moment, as well.

I've been thinking about making a little video just for Patreon answering questions casually, like everything I can share jam-packed into one space. Please let me know if you have any questions you would like answered in the video! Or I'll just take questions I've received from all over and try to make a fun and casual Q+A video. Thanks!

I have a riso question :) When I went to school, we had to wait several days between printing the different colours for them to dry to avoid the roller marks. I see you usually print all the colours in one session, how do you avoid the roller marks on your work?

Natalie Andrewson

Hi Lone, now that I'm out of the print lab I try and print each color 24 hours apart, however, I'm still having issues with some roller marks because I have a single color Riso machine, instead of what I was used to using, which was a 2 color drum machine (MZ 990). So now my prints go through 3x with the rollers making contact with some ink each time. I try to minimize this by leaving the area where the roller marks hit the paper empty, but it still picks up some ink, especially when I do 3+ color printing with heavy ink coverage. I also clean the rollers about every 20 prints to lessen the ink build up on the rollers. Hope this helps, It's hard not to have roller marks because the ink Neve fully dries and I like to have dense ink coverage in my prints but they're easy to erase if they're annoying! I tend to leave them because it's a mark of the Riso.
