Work Snapshot 3/14 (Patreon)
Content
Hello everyone! Hope everyone's having a good start to the week.
I'm going to try out a new rapid-fire post format so I can share all of my in progress work with you in a more organized way! I'm going to call it Work Snapshot and tag it this way so you can (eventually) click through all the 'Work Snapshots' I've done and see all the behind the scenes work in one place! Without further ado, here's a little glimpse of what I'm working on this week:
Almost finished with January's Riso print!
I'm currently going through several iterations of this Egyptian frieze inspired piece. Title and colors are TBA! Here's a glimpse of my struggle, these are versions 1 and 4 of this print. I think I'll have my mind made up after this next test- fingers crossed the values turn out like I expect them to!! Of course, there will be a full breakdown of this print soon- plus more of a look into each step of figuring out the values for this piece.
Canine Show for Giant Robot
Next on the docket is February's print, which will be a super sweet dog tea party scene! I'll also be making this print for Giant Robot's Canine show which opens this Saturday in Los Angeles at the Giant Robot Store! I'm finishing both January and February's prints simultaneously this week, but February's prints won't go out until early next week because printing a large amount will take a few days! I think I've been too precious with January's print- changing it so much and all- so I'm trying to just make the dog print super fun and colorful to keep the pressure off.
Stickers!
I'm in the early stages of making the Garden Mountain Trail print into a sticker set! Still debating whether they should be a sheet or a bunch of individual stickers. These stickers will have a slightly different color scheme from the Riso print because the Riso RGB colors just don't look as good when they're digitally printed. So, I've been tweaking the colors and cutting out the images slowly lately as a warm up before I jump into drawing.
Spring Dragon sketch for March's Riso Print.
I'm also in the early, early stages of printing the Spring Dragon for March's print! I want this dragon and her human companion to be waking up out of a winter slumber- maybe with lots of little bugs and animals waking up too. Elements include grass popping out of melting snow, two cherry blossom trees, spores (for allergies of course lol), and clovers!
And last but not least, I'm working on the cover and interiors for Perfectly Acceptable Press's new Riso Print Guide. This is currently not announced so I can't share much more but it'll be the sequel to this print guide Matt Davis (who runs PA) and I did two years ago!
More to share soon!!
xx Nat
