'Sleepy Cat' - March's Riso Subscription Print! (Patreon)
Content
Hello wonderful Patrons! March's prints are heading out early next week to Patrons who paid on March 1st. This package will also contain the Owl Lord sticker and this month's Mini Subscription Card, inspired by the print I made with the same colors.
This one is really difficult to take photos of because of the hot pink I made by mixing a combination of light yellow and 100% fluorescent pink. It's sadly just not something RGB can capture but I hope you enjoy how vibrant they are in real life! Someone recently told me they were shocked by how bright my pieces were in real life and it was a very nice comment to receive...but also a little disheartening! I wish Riso could photograph and scan better...this is why I love sharing the physical print at comic festivals and conventions- people get to see the real deal all together.
Speaking of conventions, I'll be at MoCCA fest April 1st and 2nd, so if you're in NY and want to see all of my new work (and a ton of really incredible artwork) consider popping by MoCCA in a few weekends!
This print was made using yellow, fluorescent pink and blue, in that order! I'm really happy with all the gradients in this piece and the super vibrant tones are striking with the empty space surrounding it.
I've been very inspired by letter press pieces lately, especially ones with a lot of space around the edges to create a simple, but effective image. The amount of empty space combined with the significant amount of pink and yellow directly in the center of the piece meant the roller marks got a little out of control on this one, even after waiting several weeks for the ink to set into the paper a bit more. Riso ink never dries and the roller marks are just a part of the process of being able to get these wonderful layered colors. I even bought a de-humidifier for this print and created a little chamber for the inks to dry, but to no avail. There was simply too much pink and yellow in the center, and the kitty got especially hit by the rubber pad that helps feed the paper into the printer. Again, Riso isn't perfect, so I make do with what I can be in control of, but I actually thought the rubber pad hitting the kitty looked interesting on this one, so I ran with it!
This piece is inspired by my own front porch paradise with my own kitty, Junie. I actually sadly just moved away from this apartment, but I'm trying to recreate a space like this in my new place. It'll have to take a lot of time to get my plants back to the way they were after the move, though! Too sad >_< but I know exactly what I want to make an even more epic kitty paradise!!!
In this package is also this owl sticker!! I made this drawing a little while ago but finally got around to making him a sticker recently. So excited to be able to share this one with patrons, I love making stickers so much!! And the tactile quality of these ones are SO nice. If you need a sticker manufacturer use Rockin' Stickers!! Really high quality stickers, nice vibrant colors, quick turn around times and extremely nice, professional crew!!
Here's a breakdown of how I made this piece, and it's attached if this image is too small as well.
This will be headed your way next week, keep an eye out for it soon, and don't forget to update your patreon address if you've moved. Many thanks!!
