Sunflower Fairy - July's Riso Subscription Print (Patreon)
Content
Hello Wonderful Patrons!
I just finished July's Riso print, the Sunflower Fairy!! It's a three color print made by layering yellow, fluorescent pink and blue, in that order.
It'll be sent out next week to patrons on the Riso subscription tier who paid on July 1st. I know summer is a big time for moves so check that your address is updated for my patreon before next week!
Also, Patreon moved their billing offices and caused a lot of patrons to receive fraud alerts on their payments (cool). If you got a fraud alert from Patreon, make sure that your pledge has been retried for July or else I won't be able to send the print! Message me if you have any questions, you would have received a fraud alert if there was a problem.
Also, August's print, Howl's Moving Castle, is in the works! If you didn't sign up and pay on August 1st then I'll be doing a special promo for in my shop for Patrons only! More info on that to come, I'll announce it when I have Howl printed.
I'll have the Riso breakdown for this print ready for you next week, for now here are some juicy Riso close ups!
The Sunflower Fairy (or Summer Fairy) is the third in my installment in the seasonal fairies prints that I think I'm going to call Garden Fairies. I was originally going to call this one Garden fairy...and then I decided that'd be a perfect title for all four of them together. I think the next fairy will be Pumpkin Fairy for Fall! I have a MTG piece coming out that I'll be printing for my patreon and then for October I think it'll be fall fairy- just a little sneak peek!
ooo the reds on this one is sooooo nice, very excited about how vibrant these came out.
I really loved adding all the little yellow/gold sparkles all around this piece, really makes the edges glow a bit.
The roller marks went right down the middle of my character for this one, but ended up not affecting the image as much as I was bracing for! I've been adding them to a de-humidifying 'chamber' (a box on top of a de-humidifier) to get most of the moisture out of the prints before adding my final layer, I think it really helped this time (was especially worried about the rains here in LA, plus it's been so humid, it really affects the print!
One of my favorite parts of this print are the different colored tiny tomatoes dappled around the big juicy tomatoes.
Also really love the slight pink I added to the sunflower petals!
Couldn't help myself with the strawberries in the corner. I'm always scheming up ways to add strawberries to my prints.
...I added bunny ears to the caterpillars...don't sue me. I love them so much, with their little orange stripeies. In this world they don't destroy the tomato plants...they help them grow lol.
Look at the little dots for the blue water droplet!! That's just 15% opacity there for blue. In this picture you can see the different levels of opacity of blue next to the 100% ink for yellow and pink, which has very few to no dots at all. With 100% it's mostly just an open hole in the screen so the texture you're seeing is a combination of the washi paper screen and the paper texture!
Ok, I'm compiling all my thoughts for the Riso breakdown now, will share that soon! Thanks for your patience as I get caught up, next post will be Howl sketches!
xoxo nat
