I'm still planning to finish that Canari idea, but I wanted a little break and was struck by inspiration -- I started playing Zenless Zone Zero again, and pulled one of the new agents, Dialyn. She's very cute, and she's a customer service rep with a phone theme and a portal chakram weapon...having a split screen where we get to see both her front and back half from different angles seemed like a no-brainer, and of course she's on the phone with the lucky customer.

I thought this would be a quick loop I could have completely finished in a couple weeks, but a combination of holidays spent with family, needing to take breaks for my body, and her design being more challenging than expected means that I only have a WIP to share for now (it's an attachment on this post). The full finished piece will be ready in a week or two, assuming nothing else crazy happens in the meantime. I'm really proud of what I've got done so far, though -- lots and lots of secondary motion, bodies moving in perspective, etc. And it's kind of like two animations in one because of the split screen. I also attached a .gif version, but because it's 30fps in the original, the timing is off as a gif.

Sorry I'm moving slowly with animation, but I hope the wait will be worth it. I still love doing these more than anything else I've ever done, and I don't want to half-ass them. I'm also doing studies and learning more about animation fundamentals whenever I find time, so I can keep making better and better stuff. Anyway, thanks for your support, y'all! Hope the holidays have treated you well, and Happy New Year!

ALT TEXT:

A sketched out animation of Dialyn from Zenless Zone Zero. In the top half of the split screen, her upper body is propped up on her elbows on a desk while her lower body disappears into a portal behind her. She's holding a phone in her hand, looking over her shoulder with a smug look. In the bottom half of the split screen, we see a low-angle view of her ass being plowed by a dude in his living room, booty cheeks and thighs jiggling with every impact.

BURGERFAN

This is already so good

StroggifiedNoob

I see Dialyn and I hit like immediately.

Golden Urples

I saw Dialyn in my notifications, and now I see absolute genius.

This looks so good! I gotta ask, cause im trying to animate again, what do you do to avoid wiggly lines, any particular tutorials you watched?

kafein

AMAZING low angle, and the motion looks very natural 😤👍

Gronk

This is fantastic stuff! I love seeing the WIPs like this

Flash Kenton

I gotta say, so far the wait definitely looks worth it!

AkaiRiot

Thank you! The main thing that helps with wiggly lines for me is using the onion skin tool in Clip Studio Paint -- if you compare each frame to the one before and after, it'll jump out immediately if a line is too off-course. Other than that, I know other animators sometimes use vector lines to keep everything super consistent, but I prefer the organic feel of raster brushes.

GridRunner

Yeah i do use that for the most part, i just seem to struggle with consistency when i draw new layers haha Did you by any chance learn through tutorials or completely wing it and taught yourself

AkaiRiot

90% was just trying stuff and seeing what worked for me, lol. In the past, I generally only looked up tutorials if I run into a specific issue (in my case, that's usually related to the quirks of Clip Studio Paint or Premiere or whatever program I'm working in at the moment). I've been studying from Richard Williams' Animator's Survival Kit for a few weeks now and finding it super helpful, though! Kinda working in reverse, trying to go back and build better fundamentals and foundations for animation. Sorry I can't be more help, but I hope things go well for ya!

GridRunner

Nah no need to say sorry, ill check him out, like i understand basics of animation, i just never got to fully learn different ways of going about it, im sure i can teach myself, thanks for responding!
