According to Google it is based on events that happened to a man in Denver Colorado. "The 1980 film The Changeling is based on the paranormal events Russell Hunter experienced while living in an old home near Cheesman Park in the late 1960s. Hunter had worked as a musical arranger for CBS-TV in New York City, but moved to Colorado in the mid-1960s to help his parents manage the Three Birches Lodge in Boulder. In the late 1960s, Hunter began looking for an apartment in Denver where he could live and work on his music. He rented a home at 1739 East 13th Avenue (which has since been torn down)."

Oooh! That's cool. I love fun facts. Thanks for sharing.

I had never heard of this movie before. It was really good. I love that kind of gritty look that some late 70's, early 80's movies have. I think it could have been tightened up a little bit- it wouldn't have hurt to shave a little bit off the overall runtime. The casting for the Republican Senator was spot on. If somebody showed me a picture of that guy and asked me to identify him, my first answer would have been "old, white, Republican Senator." 😂

Pogo Yaga

No. The runtime was 100% perfect exactly as-is.

… living in Denver it’s a well known, but not well known story that makes the rounds on Halloween … Chessman Park in the film is really Cheesman Park here in Denver and that has its own reputation for being haunted too

Robin

… if you haven’t yet you need to watch 1977’s The Sentinel and 1978’s The Manitou , this gets you primed for those peak 70’s bonkers horror movies

nicksaysboo

Oh, I haven’t heard of that one before well either of those technically

nicksaysboo

Yeah, I thought the suspense building in the first half was really really good but I do think that the second half could’ve been trimmed down a little bit, but minimally.

nicksaysboo

DONT PLAY WITH ME Cheeseman Park is one of my favorite places in Denver! 100% going to check this out this weekend! Well, whatever is there now that is.

Robin

… just remember, they removed the tombstones , but not all of the bodies 😱

Robin

… I’d go with The Sentinel first

I'm so glad you loved it! It's my mom's favorite horror movie so I watched it when I was like 8, that freaking child in the bathtub scared the crap out of me!

nicksaysboo

It always makes me feel SEEN to learn others started their horror journeys when they were babies as well 🙋🏼‍♂️

yomvanhaver

Yeah ! it’s all in the extra special features of Blu-ray — second sight films edition. Scary.

yomvanhaver

Have you seen The Haunting (1960) directed by Robert Wise ? And The Innocents (1961) by Jack Clayton ? If not… give it a try. 👻

I saw "Changeling" and initially thought you were reacting to the 2008 movie Changeling with Angelina Jolie lol. But yea i remember one of the interviews you were talking about with Neve Campbell. Supposedly it was the first horror movie she had ever seen.

nicksaysboo

Everyone I told that I was watching this movie immediately asked if it was the Angelina one 💀

nicksaysboo

I don’t believe so (to both). I saw the one with Catherine Zeta Jones tho lol

Madison Jacobs

Would highly recommend if you haven't seen it! Heartbreaking but beautifully made movie 😭

One of my favorite haunted house movies, actually. Very low on jump scares and high on atmosphere and grief (not that I don't love a well-done jumpscare 😈). This movie has some great touches, like the tracking shots around the house are often from the height of a small child. You'll notice the shots of John at the piano are often right around his shoulder, as if Joseph is standing right next to him. I think this is just generally a really well-done and underrated movie. A lot of people don't even know about it. I think it suffered a bit from a fairly small initial distribution and coming out the same year as The Shining. I would love to see you react to more classics like this. Saw some other commenters mention The Haunting (1963) and The Innocents (1961) - both very good. Eyes Without a Face and Burnt Offerings are another couple of older movies I'd love to see your reaction to - super creepy. Great reaction, as always ☺️

nicksaysboo

The Haunting is definitely coming at some point! I tentatively have something special planned for that one.
