I am so glad that you liked this. It seems like everywhere I turn it's getting trashed, but I thought it was fun. Loved the 80's aesthetic, the soundtrack was great (tons of classic 80's songs), the performances were good, the kills were good, there was some humor.... Was it as strong a film as the original trilogy? Probably not, but it's hard to compare because they're so different tonally. My biggest critique would be that the makeup was not 80's enough! 80's makeup was INTENSE.... some would say clown like 🤡. The makeup the characters wore to prom- definitely not wild enough to ring true. That said, if that's the biggest criticism I can come up with I'd say they did a great job.

People hate FUN! but we few, we happy few, we band of buggered, we get it! And yeah, I agree about the makeup. And the hair tbh. I wish they would have also used some more deep cuts versus the “80s Nostalgia Playlist”.

Holly

Maybe people have hate for it because the original trilogy had a deeper story with sarah fier. For me, horror doesn't always have to be deep and meaningful. I love a good old slasher where you watch a bunch of dummy's get slaughtered. And I loved the 80's theme

I love campy horror. Especially from the 80s. The Intruder, Prom Night 2 and 3. Sleepaway Camp 2 & 3, or Silent Night Deadly Night. This didn't take me back to the 80s. The characters felt too contemporary. An 80s movie and no Aqua Net hairspray? I can't say I had a lot of fun. If you're going to give me an electrocution death, I need 80s style blue electricity.

I would say that I was surprised that the director said that they wanted it to feel like you were watching an 80s slasher movie versus a modern day slasher movie trying to pay homage. It didn’t feel like that. I know it cost more money to do nowadays, but I wish that they would’ve even filmed this on actual film versus digital

Yeah, I kind of went into this feeling like it was just going to be a standalone so I think that helped it sit better for me. The trilogy was far more story heavy.
