"After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws. As one by one they transform into deadites, she comes to discover that the vows she took in life - survive even in death."

Ashes to Ashes. Dust to Dust. Deadite to Deadite.

Yesss!! Going through it with some family issues right now so excited to dissociate and watch this! (Sorry to trauma dump but I’m excited)

Please don't handle the family issues the way they were handled in this movie. Unless it's similar to the husbands behavior then by all means sis.

I have that EXACT goblet. I got it from that Halloween/Costume shop. 11:22 (in the movie) - Will (the brother that dies early in the movie) looks like he could be a sibling of Edward Norton. Also kinda sounds like him too. This movie when so hard with its practical effects. The Title Card is so fucking good. It took the intensity of the 2013 movie, added the effects work of the Evil Dead Rise, then, threw all that into a vat of gasoline and lit it on fire with a flamethrower. 16:32 - Souheila Yacoub who plays Alice in this movie, looks VERY similar to the lead actress, Ana de Armas in the movie "Knives Out". More so the voice between the two. I know Alice is supposed to be French, but the two side by side could be sisters easily. 27:40 The house that this event takes place in, I noticed how much in disarray it is, how old, rotting, unkempt it is. I find it's indicative of the family's dynamic. Toxic, Unwell, Sick, full of decay. The house and really many things in this movie reflect the toxic family dynamic on display.

This movie has been stepping up the sound transition work. It reminds me a lot of Edgar Wright's style of those quick transitions in like, Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead.

35:00 - The glares and comments from Grandma also make me think this feels like the kind of cold racism that's more implicit and situational. Grandma constantly afraid of people stealing her money while looking at Alice and Thya (Joseph's Girlfriend (Hunter Doohan)) screams old racism. 41:30 - The top down camera work really screams well in this movie given the scenes used. It's so well done. The Top Down Car Wreck and other scenes taken from top view down.

45:55 - Oooh I wonder if they will be connecting this universe to Eldrich Horrors. It certainly could easily integrate.

59:00 - That backup alarm is too funny. Its about as a funny as the scene in "Gremlins" when they sabotage that old bag's stair lift scenes.

Ofbricks

1:03:45 - 30+ years of family trauma ejected in one raw display.

If anyone says "You're nothing without me." Just leave. Leave now. Leave safely, leave with witnesses present. But leave, or call 911 if you can't leave. You never have to tolerate abusive partners or family members. You are entitled to be a happy, safe person when laying your trust to someone so plainly. If you are in an abusive relationship, seek help and don't try to make it better. Get out and get help after leaving (Or help to leave WHEN SAFE TO DO SO).

1:07:00 - She was infested when Thya (Joe's Girlfriend) licked Grandma's denture and put it back into her mouth.

1:16:10 - I feel the psychiatric bills for this movie's events so hard.

Ofbricks

1:21:00 - That roof crash got me so effing good. Jesus I jumped hard for it.

Ofbricks

1:23:38 - As a mandatory reporter for family violence....being aware and tolerating violence is not acceptable. You are just as guilty as the abuser, if not more so.

Ofbricks

1:24:40 - SHE SAID THE THING!

Ofbricks

1:25:19 - That wall camera work is so fun and visually effective in every single way.

Ofbricks

1:26:00 - Joseph is a character I sympathize with most because I feel like he really tried to be the best person he could despite the family abuse. It could be reasoned perhaps that he is both responsible for not stopping the abuse better, but being a victim of his own upbringing with the constant family affirmations and coddling by his mother likely reassuring everything is ok, its all ok, etc etc.

Demon/Zombie dogs don't count as real dogs unless they act like real dogs.

Ofbricks

1:44:00 - Most performing animals get a credit in the movie if they're a "main character".

Ofbricks

1:47:00 - I feel like they took the greatest elements of both movies and were very effective at blending themes of both into this movie. This movie took a lot of risks with various themes and did them very effectively.

Ofbricks

Did you hear that Bruce Campbell officially has announced he will no longer portray the character again?

Ofbricks

1:49:16 - That name was innocuous to me until she appeared in the mirror.

Ofbricks

1:50:00 - What a way to end a fucking movie. SERIOUSLY!

So I didn't find the movie terrible, but it definitely didn't hold a candle to the past ones in the series. I found it gross to be gross without a good reason. But family coming after you is so scary. I think the denture and kissing scene was a way to spread the deadite thing to other people. None of the characters were that memorable to me or standoutish. Except maybe the father because even his real self was intimidating, scary and nerve wracking. The woman at the beginning that killed the fisherman that Will ran over was Jessica from Evil Dead Rise. She went to the cabin with her friends and killed them after leaving the apartment building at the end of the movie.
