Hello. A quick devblog update for your Friday Collapse Mode.
65LABS this week has had a general ambience much like the quiet thunder of a summer storm. We've been scattered across different projects and the usually efficacious 65LABS Statistical Analysis wing had their hands full building accurate diagrams for this week's blog post, so they have failed to deliver their report on what we've actually been spending our time on. So... This is the best guess.
THIS WEEK
• Lots of mixing work on Release #3. Taking a little longer than we hoped, because it's shaping up to be a right good'un and we really want to get it right. It's the sound of that summer thunder. More in a Tiger Girl way than an ending-of-Unmake-the-Wild-Light kind of way. If you catch our drift.
• Plenty more porting of old systems and building the beginnings of new ones. The trouble with V2 is that now we have the audio framework built, it is very easy to get lost in adding to newer systems because they no longer need to follow generic system rules. All the systems work together, but within themselves we can make them do... whatever we can imagine. This vast abyss of tinkering we have accidentally opened up suggests that now we need to start thinking about a way to roll out V2 in a way that makes regular ongoing public system upgrades much easier than it currently is for V1. Otherwise we will be developing it behind closed doors forever. So... This doesn't mean it's gonna appear in the next few days or anything like that, but just so it's clear, we haven't forgotten that part of the initial thinking behind this project was to get a lot of the processes as transparent as possible. We're trying to push it more in that direction. (Feel free to send suggestions...)
• If you missed it yesterday, we wrote a blog post about our Mountain algorithm. It's just one small slice of our (possibly endless) Wreckage Systems Technical Overview series, but one that hopefully helps give a sense of all of the moving parts we are so carelessly juggling.
• We are also working on a new series of posts so that they aren't always of the technical variety. This one will be in collaboration with the 65LABS Archivists. We're just working out how to weed out all the nostalgia before we can starting sharing.
NEXT WEEK
• Not sure yet. Really hope to get the Release #3 mixes finished, and we'll be dedicating a big chunk of time to V2 development.
• If it looks like we're too busy to share anything else here of substance, at the very least we'll make an effort to hang out on the Discord more.
That's it. Enjoy the respite, if you manage to grab any.
