Let a thousand Wreckage Systems bloom!

Every advance in the development of the V2 stream has been one step closer to obsoletion and oblivion for the V1 stream. Until now...

The idea of preserving the V1 systems has come up a few times in discussion here and on Discord. But it was a curious problem to solve.

We couldn’t just record the output of each system. The music is a key part of it, of course, but the systems weren’t designed to be trapped in one particular state as finite listening experiences. They are designed to exist in relation to one another, in the context of the stream, the adverts and, at least on YouTube, the 65daysOS graphical environment.

So working around the clock, technicians at the 65LABS Archival Branch have achieved a breakthrough and figured out how to duplicate information DIGITALLY, allow for multiple copies of a piece of software to exist in multiple locations SIMULTANEOUSLY. When the tech industry gets wind of this it is going to change everything... Using this technology, we found a way to capture and preserve the systems as they exist in the stream.

We are therefore excited to announce The Wreckage Systems V1 Archive. This software is a faithful replica of the same V1 stream that you can currently see running live here, that you can run on your home computer.

The one thing that this doesn’t solve is the problem of alienation. The material reality of the One True Stream was and continues to be important to us. The fact that we are all listening to the same thing at the same time is important. But although we cannot capture this aspect, we managed to grab the rest and build an archive. And of course, the V2 stream will still be there, taking the place of the One True Stream we can all experience together.

In other words, the V1 Archive is a piece of downloadable software, which will be free to all subscribers. It is experimental, and not likely to be regularly maintained, and (important!) we are not actually software developers, so set your expectations accordingly. But let’s see how it goes. It will be available for Windows & macOS. We have no way to test Linux at the moment and so if nobody asks about it, then we might leave it for now (Shout loudly if you are outraged by this - if there's a lot of you we will see what we can do).

We may or may not need beta testers at some point. It’s pretty vague. If all goes well, much like the Bandcamp versions of the Wreckage Systems releases, the V1 Archive will be available to purchase by whoever wants it, but as Patrons you will of course receive your copy for free. (We will be re-announcing this on our main social channels in the coming weeks, but wanted to give you all a preview).

Features:

- Launch your own instance of the original V1 stream (re-broadcasting to Twitch/YouTube etc. is allowed and, in fact, very much encouraged).

- Launch a specific Wreckage System in endless mode.

- A utilitarian 65LABS User Interface that does not mess about.

- An About Screen.

- A Credits List. (This will include you, dear Patron! But because we don’t want to dox you all, this will probably be OPT-IN! Stay tuned for info about this, we’ll gather info from whoever would like a named credit in due course).

- That’s it. No feature creep here. Just an as-faithful-as-possible recreation of the V1 software as it really exists, with a front-end to make it usable for everybody

I'd love a Linux version and being a software developer I could help if you need testing or sth similar

This is a beautifully elegant solution. Congrats 65Labs

Would this be available as a mobile app at any point please…?
