Hi, friends. Here we are again, one week closer to literally everything that is still left to happen to humanity. There was a rush of activity toward the end of the week here at 65LABS. And at the start of the week. Less so in the middle.

We reach this Friday afternoon with a host of updates to share with you. Let's get to it.

THIS WEEK

- A new system! Proto-YU is an off-kilter contraption. The sound of forced perspective. A distant cousin to Proto-[]lid from the Decomp Sketches e.p, which in turn informed []lid from replicr, 2019, but Proto-YU is still its own, distinct, curious entity. Like a sampler folding in on itself, or the soundtrack to a cheaply animated, low polygon NPC character clumsily clipping their way through a hi-res, photorealistic environment. Plus some nice fluttery piano samples. They sound familiar so they may have been used elsewhere at some point, but regardless, they were first sculpted from the burning embers of Proto_YU. (Unless you know better, in which case let us know and you will be immediately promoted to the head of the severely understaffed 65LABS Desperately Trying To Keep Track of Everything Branch.)

- Another new system! Shapeshifter is a pretty shimmer of a track. It has one goal, which is to sound like what-if-the-sky-became-an-ocean-and-this-was-the-utopia-we’d-been-searching-for-all-along? A question you no doubt ask yourself a lot these days. And also the name of your new post rock band. You're welcome.

- A THIRD NEW SYSTEM. WHAT. YES. IT IS TRUE. CryWave is a skeletal interpretation of what physics might sound like if sine waves were made of tears. Or if metal could sob. Some hefty beats going on here at times. Perhaps this could have been turned into a regular song rather than a Wreckage System. Although these two things are not mutually exclusive...

- CryWave, Proto_YU & Shapeshifter take our tally to 55 systems. Ten away from the goal. There are other tasks we need to undertake to finish off V2 beyond the actual systems running inside it, not least locking down the visuals. Although from the reports we have heard from you all, the log that currently runs in the test stream seems to have been fairly well received, so the public version will probably end up looking somewhat similar to this.

- Since there are three new systems, we also uploaded a new build of the live stream. V2.0.0.8 quietly went online a little earlier today. Enjoy. [Note: now we've heard CryWave live on the stream, it's a little quiet compared to the others. Will fix that in the next build].

- The MIDI Thief. Apart from the new systems today, yesterday, as promised, we published a fuller explanation of our The MIDI Thief algorithm, complete with a 30 minute audio soundscape demonstrating how it works. If you missed that post you can check back HERE. You should have got a Bandcamp download code via email yesterday too. DM us if you didn’t.

- Did you forget that Wreckage Control has been keeping a glitched out history of everything it has played since August? We did, briefly. But look, it is still going.

THINGS TO COME

- More content for the deathly churn of the Internet Machine.

- We might have time to turn our attentions to organising Release #5 and making a plan to get it from wherever it currently is into your ears and hearts. Not sure how long that will take yet. Maybe we’ll have an idea by next week.

That’s the news from the lab. Thanks for sticking around everyone. See you next time. Take care out there.
