OMG ITS HAPPENING! Greatest task in the history of the show

Ian Richards

Ah, the human centipede task is right up there in the hall of fame! They actually took the idea of having a team member commit sabotage from a slightly different task on the second series of Taskmaster New Zealand, which was broadcast a year earlier, but it worked so much better on this version because John - in the nicest possible way - plays "bumbling simpleton arsing up the task" to perfection. (In fact, there are times later in the series when he manages to play that role without even being asked to!) If you're disappointed about missing out on the rest of Decibel Top Trumps at the end, good news: they did the other noises for fun as an outtake. All outtakes from the first three episodes are collected in one video on YouTube, and those from E3 begin around 20:00, where you can see some of Dara's studio banter as well as the final-task excerpts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOnRsjKAUMM

Potentially the best episode of the series (although there are some brilliant tasks still to come!) Incidentally the game show mentioned near the end, "Play Your Cards Right", was the long running (80s-00s) UK version of "Card Sharks", which ran for a few years in America in the late 70s, but didn't take off compared to, say, Wheel of Fortune or The Price Is Right. It simply involved flipping over playing cards and guessing whether the next card would be of a higher or lower value.

What a great episode. John shouting 'something's happened! Something's fucking happened!' when he caught the ball was hilarious to me for some reason 😁 I can't believe he actually caught it and only got 4th place lol.
