Going to miss this show, really hilarious characters

The reason this show finished is because it was getting really bad press and reviews from journalists!... The media, especially the written press in the UK back then were incredibly influential and powerful, and could easily destroy a show or career!... They kind of went to war with this show and were very snobby about it... They hated that Ben Elton, the writer of this show, had become a 'populist'... They preferred his other more edgy alternative type of comedy material that he'd become famous for a decade earlier in the 80s... They felt that this show was too mass-market and purile... So Ben Elton, who was sick of this constant criticism and abuse from the press, had enough and ended it... Rowan Atkinson was also becoming very popular with numerous other roles, (that probably paid better and also recieved far better feedback) so that probably played a part in it finishing too!

I'm seeing the stage version of Minority Report in London this week - written by David Haig (who plays Inspector Grim) - should be interesting!

Danny

It was good to watch this again. Definitely an open ending. Wish they had done more. Bun atleast it ended on a happy note for Inspector Fowler and Patricia and things backfired for Grim

That sounds pretty cool. I had no idea there was a stage version of the story(presumably based on the book, rather than the film, with its action scenes set on the side of skyscrapers). Written by David Haig? Crikey. People contain multitudes.

DDDPPP

That's right- based on the book. Lots of big effects and very action-y though. Indeed - Mr Haig has written a few plays and has a very storied acting career in theatre. Talented chap.

I always make this suggestion to reactors, it's one of my favourites. I'm really glad you were able to do it. I'm met many Inspector Grims in real life, there's definitely a real character behind him haha. The funny thing is he puts that accent on, he's actually quite posh in real life.

It took me a while to figure out Hugo Ignatieff Vincente stood for HIV lol

Jehan Ariyaratnam

Yeah really amazing writing and rowan Atkinson was amazing and David haig played such a funny character in Inspector Grim. The support cast were all amazing too, frank Gladstone, Goodie, Habib, Kray, Boyle and Patricia were all great

Dan

Watching this as a kid it wasn't too funny but rewatching as an adult it was surprising how funny it was. You tend to know what you're getting with Rowan Atkinson
