The Watcher

America's version of ghosts is really good.

I can't and won't dispute that statement, having never seen it. But everything I have seen and heard from US remakes, makes that incredibly hard to believe. 🤣

The Watcher

One of the actors guest stars. They pretty much follow the same kind of pattern. I know nothing about America but I really liked it and found it interesting.

I'll just take you word for it. After all, taste is as subjective as is opinion. Pretty much the only successful UK - US sitcom remake that I could cite, would be The Office. (Boy have they tried to replicate a bunch of shows, abysmally. In the end The US Office wasn't really comparable as a whole. Because they appropriately adpated it into more of a traditional wacky sitcom, and away from the mockumentary origins that made the original as unique for the time. It became an anchored filming style that really didn't make a whole lot of sense as the series went on. A 9 year documentary in the work place in a Country notorious for cultivating an audience with short attention spans. I say all that, having ended up liking The US Office quite a bit. But it is about the only example.

The Watcher

I've never liked the office, so can't really say. I do like ricki though. I think that it's rare for an original to be made into a better version. Are you being served? was remade in Australia, and I can't say I was a fan.

US shameless was good

Jeffrey44

This was good. I liked the bit where Pat found out he was a grandfather.

I tried to watch the American one, didn’t even make it 15 mins into the 1st episode, thought it was terrible.

The Watcher

It's diffrent to get accustomed too. The first time I tried to watch it I switched off but found myself board one day and decided to have another go. After watching about 5 episodes I found that I liked it and did get into it in the end. I think it can be strange as getting used to the way they do things and even the way they phrase things and say things that we in the uk wouldn't even think too. The common themes do remain the same thou I find. The only thing I really find annoying is how chipper some of the characters are which I can find off putting.

I would say that the office is a good comparison. The start of the US ghosts tried to follow the same format as this one and was a terrible copy (the same as the office). Once you get past about 6-7 episodes though they start bringing in different ideas that aren’t addressed in this one and it’s a good show. It’s terrible when they try to make a US version of our shows with a similar script as it’s never done as well. I think that US ghosts and the office were only popular once they aimed it more at a US audience rather than trying to replicate ours exactly.

Vickie

@The Watcher - that is pretty much the same thing as I just said. That’s around when they stopped trying to copy ours (badly).
