Melanie's boyfriend in this series is an entireley new character. James McAvoy's character in the first series was called Liam. At this point in his career he was cast in the show Shameless so couldn't commit to filming here. There's a cleverly written line about it later in the series.

They didn’t go on a bar crawl they went to the horse racing and then the strip club 😄

Tortoise (turtle as I think you call those too in the US) not a dog 😊

It’s not common to recast characters here, does happen occasionally but it seems to be more common in the US. Definitely wouldn’t replace a Glaswegian actor with one from Lancashire 😄

Think of it like a franchise, the landlord runs the pub for the brewery who own it (and several other pubs, how many depends on the size of the brewery). The pub will mainly sell what the brewery makes. The alternative is a free house where the landlord also owns it and can sell what they like - but are also responsible for all the costs the brewery would cover if they owned it

I thought the old guy that's always complaining had passed away at first. That was probably the plan, with the camera focusing on his empty table at the start. Anyway, I hope they can find a replacement tortoise for Joan's mother. It won't be too long coming out of its shell 😄
