Update Aug 31st 2021: If you don't already know, fellow content creator Pyram King makes amazing videos on adding tons of great content to Curse of Strahd. I personally struggled with prepping for Vallaki because of it's sheer size. Pyram's video is extremely helpful in learning more about the Wachter family and making this location epic! Check it out here!

Update Aug 25th 2021: After a request from one of my awesome patrons, I have found a way to create files with rain only on the outside areas and not over the interior areas. Unfortunately, this process takes a while, so might be some time before I update my previous files, but I promise I will work on it as time permits! I have updated the rain files in the attached .rar and .zip files. Enjoy!

Original Post: Happy Monday everyone and I'm so excited to bring you a new map release. Today, I am launching the Wachterhaus in Vallaki. I've always thought this was a really cool social encounter for players who get deep into the politics of the town.

For this map, I tried to capture the feel of a once noble house that has been deteriorated over the ages (metaphorically for the owner as well). Creeping vines and ivy cling to a warped and dilapidated structure which leads me to one of my favorite descriptions: "This house seems disgusted with itself".

For my patrons, I have created the following variants:

  • Day / Night
  • Rain / No Rain
  • Grid / Gridless

You can find all files in the attached .zip and .rar files (separated by grid and gridless)

I hope you enjoy and would love to hear any stories you'd like to share of your party's exploits in the Wachterhaus!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Hi Andy. Thanks for uploading the 8k versions of Wachterhaus! The 8k WebP file does not have night/rain variants for the basement, though.

Hi Steven, sorry for the oversight on my end! I've fixed the issue and I've uploaded those missing files both grid / NoGrid for JPG and Webp.

Luxuria Unus

I know this is an older post, and this request may be time-consuming, so no hopes up. But if it would ever be possible to get a version where the cult room is blank, that'd be sweet. I like to run the MandyMod version where the cult operates much differently. That being said, no worries if not, I know it is a very niche request.

Yes no problem! I’m just getting back from vacation so let me work on this and I’ll tag you when done.

Dungeoneer Guild

Sorry to be bothersome, but 90% of my CoS campaign is using your maps. Is there a version of Wachterhaus second story without her husband's body on the bed? I really wanted to use my own token that makes him look far more mummified and so my characters can take it if they want.

Its no bother at all! While I can update all of them, it'll be faster if you tell me which one specifically you need. Can you tell me the variant (day, night, fog, rain, no weather, etc), the resolution (8k / 4k) and if you need a grid or not? I can make that change and upload it here to the post.

Dungeoneer Guild

Just that one and no need for any others :-)

Okay, I uploaded just the image to this post (you'll see the single JPG file attached). Hope that's what you're looking for! Also, I've been working on the restored Burgomasters Mansion from the Interactive Tome of Strahd and having to switch back to a map I made years ago.. I will say they are night and day! I'll be releasing this mansion in a few weeks but I cannot wait to re-do Wachterhaus and the other Vallaki buildings to my new map standards :)

Sebastien H.

what an excellent idea to add the roof only png :) awesome to use with foundry, thanks for your work !!

Awesome!! I'm glad to hear that is helpful. I've been listening to user feedback and I will try to include roof .png files for my maps going forward. I will also try and update previous maps but might be more challenging with maps that include many roofs.

Branden

New patron here, and I want to let you know how much I love your work. Up until recently I've been making my own maps for my CoS campaign in Inkarnate. It was super time consuming, and your work is much better! Thank you. One small suggestion on this map and others: I love that you've included rain variants, and while it may be more realistic to show the rain falling above the interiors I suggest removing the rain effect over the interior sections as it gets in the way of gameplay and makes it look like it's raining inside.

Hey Branden! First, welcome to my page and thank you SO much for your support! I'm so glad you find value here and can use my maps for your campaign!

Rystin

I love the look of all of these maps as well. I'm not sure about other VTT programs but Foundry VTT lets you set your scene to be day, night, raining, or snowing if you want

Thanks so much Dez! I'm glad to get your experience from the Foundry side of things as I don't personally run it. I use Roll20 for my games and they don't have any out of the box weather settings so I try to include those on my maps. But I was able to find a fix for my rain issue for those users outside of foundry. Once I get some time this week I'll go back and update these maps so there is not rain showing on the interior locations. Does foundry let you control the rain for interior locations? In others words show it only raining outside but not inside on the same map?

Benjamin Mowbray

You are one of the most community friendly designers, it is great to see the support you give and willingness to please just the vocal minority. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much Benjamin! I continue to be amazing and honored by the support of my patrons and I strive to create the best quality maps possible!

Pyram King

This was one of my favorite locations to work on the backstory and history. Thank you very much. Excited to see the Baron's manor - which I will tie in the Skeleton Horde Siege. Thanks.

I loved watching your video!! Going to update this post right now with your awesome link. Thanks so much for featuring my map!

Josh

Love the map! Where can I find the roof only pngs? I can't see them in the zip file - unless I'm just completely clueless and missing something...

DM Andy

Hey Josh, really glad you like the map! The unfortunate news is I had to take down all of my .png files for roofs as they were not aligned with Inkarnate's Policies (This is the program I use to make my maps). I really wish I could provide this feature for you but sadly I'm bound by their ToC's. You can read more about it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/important-update-57644228 I would recommend using a program like Photoshop, Gimp or https://www.remove.bg/ to cut out the roofs to create the .png file yourself. I also realized I did not edit the description of this post so I've corrected that (my apologies!). I wish I had better news!

David

Hey Andy, do you happen to have an 8k version of Wachterhause? Thannks so much!
