Hey everyone, and happy Release Monday! Today, I revisit a map I originally made over two years ago and a very iconic dungeon from Curse of Strahd; Death House.

It's always a treat to revisit my previous work and create a v2.0 of my older maps. I plan to eventually rework all of my older maps, including the Village of Barovia, Vallaki, Van Richten's Tower, etc. I hope to utilize all the new techniques I've been honing over the years to bring new light into older maps.

About this Map

As you can imagine, a lot of love went into mapping out all five levels of this location, and as such, today's release is the house only. I'll be working on the basement dungeon for my next map. But I think you'll enjoy the huge level of detail I added to each corner of the Durst Manor, including an extended yard.

I wanted to give you some area outside of the manor for your players to interact with Rose & Thorn just outside of the gates. I know a lot of players like to scope out the location, so now they have the full yard to peer through windows. I also wanted to nestle this location within the pine forests of the Old Svalich Woods to keep the house feeling isolated and creepy. Eventually, down the road, I might import these maps when I create various streets of the Village of Barovia and add the Durst Manor in closer proximity to other homes (as the book describes, "row houses").

I kept the color moods slim on this release due to the large amounts of map files, but I did create the following color moods:

Gloom

Day

Night

In addition, I created the following variants of each:

Gloom with & without lights, fog, & rain

Night with & without lights, fog, & rain

Day with & without lights

I wanted to give you as much agency over lighting this location as much as possible to help you convey the shifting tone of the house.

You'll notice I kept the first two floors pretty neat and nice looking, while things start to look grim and old from the third floor and the attic.

Another important detail I tweaked a bit was I made the size of the house slightly larger than gridded out in the book. Only by a square or two on the sides, but that was just enough to give me a tad more mapping room as I felt the original house layout was a bit too small.

Release Details

For my Champion Tier Patrons, you get the following with this map release:

Hoping to pivot back to Saltmarsh soon, but this was a big release for CoS that I wanted to progress on. As I progress through the month of Aug, I plan on working on the following:

Death House Dungeon & All-in-one parchment version of the house

Temple of the Lost Fane part 3 (The final dungeon)

Lots of love for the dark fantasy this month! I'm hoping I can feel the cool ocean breeze of Saltmarsh soon as I start to think about the next map in the list of Saltmarsh locations.

Hope you enjoy this release, and as always, thanks for your continued support.

Cheers,

DM Andy

Myst

Wow Andy these are stunning!! I've just started making my own maps using Intrikate for a campaign I'm building, and even though I did already, I immediately appreciated the work you do lol, it's not easy!

Dr Albee

This looks amazing!

Donatomassimo Sisto

These are truly a work of art! You are a fantastic font of inspiration for a DM in need! I have a question: do you plan / will you ever make an "escape" version of the v2.0 maps like you did with the old one? (or maybe there's one already and I missed it!). Still thanks for your work! :)

Sherwin Rahbar

Man I would love if there was also a restored version like there was for the old one, great work though looks much more gothic then the original.

Christopher Fraser

Nooo...we just got done with death house and started the eastern barricades!
