you will not miss anything if you skip the garlic jr saga trust, ep 107 leads right into 118, garlic jr is good, dont get me wrong, it just doesnt add anything to the canon story, us true fans of you don't need you to waste your recording time on that 10 ep saga plus movie, there is some non-canon stuff we definitely want you to watch, but garlic jr aint one you gotta stress out for Leo, just skip it. then again, its up to you

Don't beat yourself up too much about all of this Leo. It is completely fine to have started with DBZ. A lot of people did, and it is the best way to get into the dragon ball universe. There are other shows that have a timeskip where it is essential that you know all details in the former series, but that really isn't the case here because everything is only loosely connected because DBZ was never supposed to be a thing in the first place.

Mr video you don’t have to watch the movies to know what’s going on your perfectly fine. I started with dragon ball and watched dragon ball z later down the line this isn’t a show where you “NEED” to watch Dragon ball first before DBZ. I rather you finish dragon ball z and watch a few movies after and then start dragon ball super. Also you can watch the movies at any time like you do regular movies their good movies and are not crucial to the story. I’m just giving my opinion because I wanna see the dragon ball series countinue on here it’s great!

Love the reaction Leo! The dragon only brought back people Frieza killed within the last year. So probably just everyone on Namek. Dragon Ball would have given you more background on Goku and friends but nothing you needed for DBZ. If you do go for the fillers I suggest binging them to get it over with quick and back on track! And watch the movies too if you’re feeling it. I’m sure most of us gunna watch whatever you put out anyways 😂

Fuck that filler, skip it. The one good thing I'll give to DBZ Kai (besides it being the closest adaptation to the manga) is how streamlined it was. Still hate the voices and butchering of some great speeches from Z but you'll have that naturally.

Bro people are being nostalgic for Dragon Ball wanting you to watch those episodes. You would learn more and be more entertained by watching one of the DBZ movies like Bardok Father of Goku instead- it's 45 minutes and gives us a look at old school Frieza and Goku's Dad. Cheers!!

I've seen people reason against the whole "5 minutes" bs with a few explanations. One is that they're moving so inconceivably fast that the fight wasn't nearly as long as it seems, plus all the cutaways to what's going on in other places like Earth and King Kai's planet. On top of that, Frieza made a guess and even says that the planet was tougher than he thought as he meant to blow it up instantly. One of them even says later on in the fight that "it should have blown up by now" so his math isn't gospel either lol. Furthermore you'll find out that a lot of the time in anime, talking is a free point 😂😂 meaning time doesn't really pass when people are chatting mid fight. It's better to just not think about the time limit and just know it's on it's way out basically. Just my take.

I had to pause and say this before I watch the episode…LEO YOUR GOOD BRO! We love your reactions no matter what! Don’t stress how you started the show one bit. Myself and everybody I personally know who watch this show started exactly like you with DBZ! It’s only young people who grew up with streaming that watched original Dragonball first. I’m 40 & back in the late 90s/early 00s DBZ is all we had! 😆 unless you got VHS tapes from Japan which would have been voiced in Japanese and probably didn’t have subtitles 😂 I’m speaking from experience, my first purchase I ever made on eBay was DBZ tapes from Japan and I waited like 2 months for them to come in. Good times, lol, now back to the show, can’t wait to see this!

Great reaction Leo. I say run a poll on whether to skip the filler arc. My vote is to skip. Unless you want to binge it and release the whole arc in one week. We just don't want to spend a whole month on a filler arc.

Why spare him? Good question. Firstly, Goku believes in redemption. He believes that people can change after they have goodness done to them. And to be fair, it worked on Piccolo. Secondly, even if Frieza can't be redeemed, Goku thinks killing is not justice. He'd rather beat Frieza senseless every day. That's better justice than killing him. Thirdly and importantly, Goku thinks he can now protect everyone from Frieza in the future. Thanks to his new Super Saiyan power, Frieza can't do evil anymore without Goku stopping him or beating him senseless for it. So killing him is unnecessary. And killing unnecessarily would be evil. Frieza's genius move was convincing Goku that just leaving him there is the same as killing him. The logic is reasonable, but it's a moral burden that Goku shouldn't take on himself. That logic means Goku kills anyone that he doesn't rescue. And theoretically he could rescue a lot of people every day, instead of training or spending time with his family. It's too much to ask that Goku save everyone that he can. Goku should have accepted that he doesn't need to save Frieza to still be a good person that doesn't kill.

Garlic jr is a standalone non cannon series. dbz has a bunch of movies you can watch in any order because they aren't really part of the main story. Just kinda like alt universe, or timeline, reality, or call it what it was, money grab. However they were pretty good. When they aired in the US, I was confused like how did they go back in time, why cant he turn supersaiyan. Who dafuq is this garlic Jr? Etc. But to us it was new so we watched it only to find, it was just filler till the next saga.

And I guess 1 of the things that kept us into the show was once these episodes end, another show worth watching would be on next, so we immediately forget how pissed we are about DBZ. Skipping Garlic Jr won’t take anything away from the plot of the next main arc. It’s truly its own standalone filler arc. Watching now will only make the main story more confusing in my opinion.

skipping filler wont take out any context of the main episodes BUT i personally say watch the filler ep because it adds to the lore of the show. like when Goku and Piccolo get their drivers licenses. people will say thats not canon and to them i say this isnt the manga, everything about the show is canon to the show. not all fillers are good but a lot them are comedic. so ultimately depends on how quickly you want to finish the show.

The limit on the dragon balls is everyone killed within one year's time. Frieza and his men were on Namek for days by the time Goku arrived, and most of the Namekians were dead by then. So they wouldn't have been brought back, if that was the case. All of them were revived except for that one village killed by Vegeta.

If you watch any of the big 3 anime (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) where filler is present, then before watching I would make it clear that you are not watching filler episodes, unless there is a huge request for certain episodes. We want you to explore other anime, but we don't want you to get trapped in the never ending canon vs filler, or dub vs sub arguments. Let it be known in the beginning like other creators and there will hardly be any problems.

A lot of people skip it - so if it doesn't sound interesting to you feel free to move on past it. <3 Please watch/drop 2 -3 episodes at a time. I have to wait til you drop 2 or 3 of em to watch it. It just flows better, its hard to explain why... it's cut for commercial breaks... but the story doesn't really call for commercials, plus you arn't watching with commercials. Just wanted to say EZ that I don't think what's "canon" really matters. What matters is what's good to watch. We judge that based on what's consistent (or close enough) with the rest of the show, what's fun to watch, and what adds to the experience in some way. That stuff matters, but canonicity doesn't really.

I actually agree with you Sage. I think your tone is a little aggressive and that's the kind of thing that stresses out Leo to read. But you've correctly identified several problems with the comments and audience. Personally I havent seen the people that hate the big animes. But I feel EZ is being too controlling over what Leo watches. Maybe he just got gassed up. There's a fine line between trying to help and being controlling, and some commenters are crossing it. Whether it's sub/dub, music, fillers, or movies. They should just be giving their opinion in an effort to help instead of telling Leo what to do or making demands, let alone threatening to leave. One of the reasons I love Leo and support him is because he clearly cares about the audience and our experience. In this way, he kind of treats it like a charity himself. But simultaneously, treating your customers well is just good business. You're right that we should all remember, Leo included, that this isn't a charity. It's too stressful to see it that way because he can't please everyone. The music debate is the perfect example of that. Leo is the GOAT for trying so hard to make his customers happy. And as well he should, given the well-paid and comfortable job we enable him to have. But that doesn't mean we should take advantage of that and start being demanding, especially given how much it clearly stresses him out. We're all here to see Leo having a good time, and it's his business to do just that, not to follow our orders. So let's keep that in mind whenever we comment.
