Watch the series Grimm pls

Steevn Sonder

I live in MD and have a tat of the stick figure. To say i love this movie is an understatement. Not everybodies vibe though so im very interested to see wyt!

Blade

awesome! I feel like this movie is under appreciated. it doesnt hit has much as it did in the 90s where everyone though it was real.

MSTORM

I was so disappointed with this movie's ending. Such a fucking letdown.

Shehab Dawoud

Hell yeah! The real genius about this film is how they marketed it. They marketed it as being real footage from 3 real people who went missing. And because the internet wasn't what it is today, people couldn't just google whether it was true or not. It wasn't the first found footage film, but it certainly made the genre popular.

MrTHIZZ916

He already reacted to it

james dixon

Awesome!! About to watch this. I remember watching this in cinemas when it released and it scared the crap out of people. Everyone thought it was real video and even though it wasn't the jump scare type of scary it really made you think about going into the woods alone.

Evannnn

He didn’t

james dixon

I'm interested too. I also haven't seen this in a long time so want to see how well it aged.

IVAN OOZE

Uffffff 🔥 gabagool

Glenn Burns

So psyched for this one!

Two fun facts: Actors were not all told what would be happening each day, they were given separate information so that some of them were genuinely scared and their reactions are real; This was a marketing phenomenon, a first-of-its-kind “found footage” horror that went all-in on building its story months before it was released. People less skeptical than me went in believing in the story of the “missing students,” whose disappearance had been spread on college campuses via posters and word of mouth. So in that sense, Blair Witch was a work of genius. Lowest budget big-box-office film at the time.

Steevn Sonder

The directors returned the cameras they rented to shoot this and and got their money for them back. Final budget with marketing ended up being about 50k. It made 250 million at the box office.

Susan B

Part of the reason people thought it was real is that the ending was unresolved.

Susan B

Leo, you would LOVE “American Movie,” a documentary about two real guys trying to make a horror film. They are inept, hilarious, but also deeply passionate about making their own film, and it’s kind of touching how far they will go to fulfill their vision. American Movie is a cult classic.

GuRillA_RACg_102

These are some great biopic movies Gridiron gang Unbroken Jersey Boys 42 Get on up The little Richard Story Cadillac Records

Susan B

One of the guys was told by the filmmaker to steal the map. So “Heather” didn’t know. Real anger and fear at that point.

Steevn Sonder

DO NOT watch any sequels to this they’re all hot garbage

Susan B

Look, Skylar did not throw the map away! That’s completely on Walter.

Itss_NattyJ

I normally don't encourage reactors to not watch sequels –– want them to find out for themselves –– but I have to agree with you on this one. The sequels are a waste of time.

Steevn Sonder

I typically wouldn’t say anything even if I didn’t like the movies but Book of Shadows and whatever Wingard made are just beyond awful I would hate to see him waste his time on those

Itss_NattyJ

I loved that film, but for some reason the shaky cam in that film is worse than in this film. Maybe because it's a lot more running but it was so unnecessary.

Jessica

When this movie came out I was a teen in high school I believe depending on the year it came out. I graduated 2002. And I still believed in ghosts. And it was so scary for me. This for me at the time was the scariest movie. And the fact we didn’t see what was hunting them made it even more scary. But then when the movie when darkness falls came out that one took the cake 😂 to this day that is the scariest movie for me. I haven’t seen it since I first saw it. But Leo if you ever decide to react to when darkness falls or Darkness falls which ever the name is. I will watch that for you. A lot of people don’t like this movie the Blair witch but I enjoy it. I think this was pretty much the beginning of the self cam type movies. And then we get the paranormal videos. It’s so cool when they do that. It makes it look real to the viewer.

Susan B

“Why did they ever go out here without a gimbal” is the best film comment EVER!!

Mr. Chumpus

Underappreciated? It was so fucking hyped and it sucked. Nobody EVER thought it was real, are you a crackhead or something? No judgement

Susan B

Great take on this film, Leo! The things people complain about (like no big reveal at the end) are the things that make it seem real.

Susan B

Leo please put the mini-series Lord of the Flies on a poll!

Blade

I can tell you know nothing about this so I wont call you stupid. but back in the 90s before social media most people thought this was real. the film's creators launched a viral marketing campaign with a lore website, fake police reports, missing person posters etc. the lead actress mother actually received condolence letters and sympathy cards from people who genuinely believed Heather disappeared. so yea people thought it was real. know your stuff before you talk nonsense.

caden beckham

This film is truly a masterpiece when you consider how they made it. A lot of people don’t like it but in my opinion it shows that you can create horror without showing “horror”!

Mr. Chumpus

Only children thought it was real. I won't call you stupid for being a child and believing it

Alice Delgado

DO NOT WATCH BOOK OF SHADOWS! That movie is confusing as hell, it makes no sense! Go ahead and watch Blair Witch. That one is more coherent than Book of Shadows

Susan B

Plenty of people thought it was real. I’m a skeptic so felt like it was just brilliant marketing, but I went to see it with young adults who were convinced it was real. There were “missing person” posters on college campus bulletin boards before there was even a hint about the “found footage.” The three people in the film kept their identities secret so they could be “missing” until the film came out. It was guerrilla marketing at its best. And the 3 people in the woods were never given the same information about who would do what - stealing the map, etc, was only known to the person doing the stealing. Even the creepy stick people weren’t revealed to the cast in advance. So their reactions were genuine frustration, anger, and fear of wtf the director had planned for them out there.

Shep

After this, you gotta watch the Scooby Doo Project. I was about 8 when this came out, and they tried so hard to sell this as a real story. SyFy Channel (it was Sci-Fi back then) ran a fake documentary about the history of Elly Kedward, The Blair Witch herself, as a tie-in to the film, and I could not sleep at night because of it. The Blair Witch has always been a part of me and my love of horror and suspense.

Mr. Chumpus

Obviously it was brilliant marketing to get so many people to pay money to watch such a horrible pos movie.

Bryce Hatley

Fun fact on this one, having saw it in the theater. It was a first in the found footage genre and was marketed virally as being real. A lot of people when seeing this were under the impression that it actually was found footage from a student documentary.

Blade

you are actually confirming my original comment. this movie doesn't hit today as the 90s because people know its not real and with other found footage movies it doesn't seem special. back then people thought it was real, the acting and filming in the movie looks legit and there wasn't many found footage movies before so it all works. I still wont call you stupid, just... senseless.

☆C~H~A~N~D~L~E~R☆

I didn't care for the reboot they did a few years back but I used to LOVE Book of Shadows. Almost more than the first at one point. I liked the cast and the music and some of the creepy stuff they did with it. Yeah there was some silly shit too but overall I still like watching it from time to time. Not everyone hates it. Just like the first movie; you either love it or hate it.

☆C~H~A~N~D~L~E~R☆

If you find the sequel to this Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 may interest you, just know it's not in the same raw Shakey cam form like the first movie. It has some in it but it's shot like a regular movie with a decent cast of actors and some callbacks. It's not for everyone but there are those that do still enjoy it.

crazyivan

I let my date talk me into seeing this at the theater. A waste of film, except for the last two seconds.

Mister Lou

Blair Witch (2016) was a great sequel that was way scarier and made sense as a good sequel, even though its technically like the 3rd or 4th idk.. but its really good. They're mistake was the marketing.

Terrance

1:02:06 “go check by the tree with the vine” absolutely hilarious my dude

Victor Fiegel

Blaire witch 2016 is a worthy sequel. I think you may prefer it.

Steevn Sonder

🤝 I respect that! + also as much as I hate the movie I will admit, that girl on the bridge in Book still pops up in my nightmares 😖

Shane Russell

I’m in Maryland too. The hype when this movie came out was unreal.

Shane Russell

I’m from Maryland. The hype when this movie came out was wild. For a few reasons. No one (or at least not many) filmmakers made a movie this way. To give the appearance that it was real people and not actors just filming home videos. This duped everyone into thinking this was real footage. This was 1999, hopping on Google to ask if it was real wasn’t a thing yet. Being from Maryland stories started going around that this was real and tall tales of the Blair witch spread far and wide. Also they made this movie for like 15K or some crazy low amount and it grossed millions and millions.

Alex

Blair Witch 2 next!!!

Steevn Sonder

Man I wish I was there! I was only 2 and in Brooklyn 🤣 The way I got introduced was cool though. I moved to MD and my friend here pranked me with it when I was like 9. They had a cut on a blank vhs that cut out all the credits and convinced me it was real 💀 wild way to watch for the first time I was Shook

Ryan Buckley

Stop looking up movies before you watch them😂 This would of been so much better without you knowing it’s fake

Kyndu

"The Witch" 2016

SpicyRikers

This was one of the first horror movies I ever saw, I snuck it out of my parents bedroom and watched it alone in my bedroom, my ass fully believed it was real and I was terrified for weeks xD

Nosferatute

when it came out cuz nobody knew if it was real or not; kinda legendary lol

Felicia Wiggins

Almost didn't wana watch this again cuz my BFF & I got in to worst arguments we EVER had over this shit!! 🤣 In fact she called ME the Blair Bitch for YEARS bcuz i said I would've NEVER chased that voice through the house let alone go IN that bitch!! She said I wasn't a real friend cuz a true friend would've tried to help no matter WHAT!! To which I replied... "SSHIIIIiiiiiitttt!!!!" 🤣🤣🤣

EZ

Absolutely horrifying and amazing

FranciscoU

The second one is retarded imo, but I actually liked the 3rd one. This one does hold a special place in my heart. I think this was the first “fever dream” type movies I’ve seen and I fell in love. Hereditary is the ultimate fever dream type movie tho, idk if you’ve seen that one already but def check it out if you haven’t.

Reader Of Threads

I was 20 the year it came out. And hardly anyone thought it was real. But as always with the internet, there are some that will belive anything. As could be seen with "truthers" a few years later, and people who today still belive in bigfoot :p

Reader Of Threads

No one thought it was real. Well, clearly someone did lmao.

Violet

Hey Leo if you want to see a very well done found footage movie that isn't full of cheesy CGI and also doesn't ever really pay off I would suggest The Last Exorcism not only is it done incredibly well and feels incredibly real but it's also not just a horror movie it's about finding genuine faith and it's very very good and it's also one of those movies that flies under the radar so not many people have reacted to it except for a lot of the horror channels

TylerNorCal

I don't think everyone thought it was real but they did think it *MIGHT* be real, and anyone saying this movie sucks just doesn't understand the impact and influence it had on so many things after. If you don't like it, cool...but it def doesn't suck.

TylerNorCal

That movie rules, it should be much more known.

Blade

A lot of people thought it was real. its was a massive financial success because many people thought they were genuinely missing or dead.

SageOfSixDabs

Blair Witch crawled so Paranormal Activity could walk, Hell House LLC could run and Apollo 18 could fly 😤I hear good things about Cloverfield too but those are my top found footage type deals.

James Therian

We ALL thought this was real growing up. Even after hearing it wasn't- many still argued it was at least based on a true story just a recreation of the events. We didn't know what found footage was yet and the fact we had a haunted area in the local Canyon called "Blaire's Ridge" named after the movie really didn't help🤣

TylerNorCal

Loved the breakdown at the end, excellent points Leo...totally agreed.

Conspiracy Smurf

This one is historically important because it was the first time we saw horror done in this fake documentary way. People really thought it was real.

Conspiracy Smurf

***THE EXORCIST*** and ***THE AMITYVILLE HORROR*** are two of the scariest vintage 70's horror classics I know you will love if you can make it through. haha Put them on your list so you don't miss those!

Susan B

Yes they are trash. Like sequels to The Exorcist, and sequels to Poltergeist. These are all stories that ended as they needed to end, and then greed kicked in.

Reader Of Threads

There were discussion boards. And there were search engines. Only people without critical thinking skills thought it was real.

Itss_NattyJ

The HELL HOUSE LLC series is probably my favorite of the found footage genre. Leo should add that one to his horror list.

Itss_NattyJ

Someone mentioned it earlier and it reminded me of other found footage horror films to add to your horror film watch list: HELL HOUSE LLC (2015), [REC] (2007), and GRAVE ENCOUNTERS (2007). Some of the webcam found footage films like THE HOST (2020) and UNFRIENDED (2021) are done really well — definitely add those to the list.

Shane Russell

Only nerds knew what a discussion board and search engine was in 1999.

Benjamin Herrera

As an Advocate and Fan of the first found footage film Cannibal Holocaust, Blair Witch just doesn't hit for some reason. The animal bullshit is what turns people off but the Director himself said he apologized and wished he never used that footage and most the meat was all used by the local tribe but still no defending that part but i will defend the film itself. Its not just shock value its actually telling a story worth visiting, how humanity truly is, whos the bad guys and who aren't. Im not saying watch it im just saying as one of my favorite Horror Films of all time, its more powerful and deep than Blair Witch and those who complain haven't even watched the thing from start to finish given the movie a chance.

Viktor M

rewatchin the movie after all the years, make me realise that the plot is full of logic mistackes and the dumb behaviour of these guys. i mean how can they get lost if there is a river...just follow the river. and the time they waste with blaming each other about the map, which is useless anyway cause they are lost and the area looks the same. and just one more hint for people lost in a forrest without a compass, the mose grown side of a tree is the north side 😉 i am living in a city and known that stuff😂 i think they wanna die🤣 and i think Leo is a little bit hard on her....

Midnight Crypt Worx

I actually disagree with the comments I did like the sequels.

Sara Croughan

I was 14 years old when this came out and a bunch of us teenagers thought this was real so maybe it wasn't grown adults that believed it but middle school and high school most of us did and we didn't have social media the way we do today

Steevn Sonder

He’s seen the exorcist wayyyy back in the day I think it’s still on youtube or discord!

D-Matrix

I forgot they did the reboot. I never bothered to check it out. The hype around the orginal at that time (before the copycats it inspired later) could never be repeated. The sequels even existing was upsetting but I figured if its possible to get close to the 1st one Id give it a try. Not even close. I usually love trash movie sequels but not this time

Steevn Sonder

I feel you with all the Poltergeist sequels/remakes + Exorcist 2/Believer, but am I crazy for thinking Exorcist 3 is kind of 🔥??

Tami Ramos

I live in Maryland. If you go to Burkittsville, you can see the items in this movie. Heather was in a real cemetery. It is right across from the town sign. They had to replace the town sign several times because people kept stealing it. Otherwise, the scenes in the woods were filmed a little further down the road near DC in Rock Creek Park. Incidentally, there is a Black Rock Road that can be seen between the towns of Hagerstown and Frederick in Maryland. When I first saw this in the theater, I got sick and so did alot of other people simply because the camera was moving too fast. But it did give me chills...and a few chuckles in some few spots of the film.

Jordan

Says this video doesn’t exist? is there a link of it on the discord cause i can’t find it
