Fun fact: this movie heavily inspired the 2010 movie "Black Swan", which shares a similar premise, but instead focus on the experiences of a ballerina, trying to get the leading role in the ballet piece "The Swan Lake". Hence the name. But yeah, I remember watching this back in high school when I was ... 16? 17? Gotta say, it was kind of an experience back then, but one i'm still glad I had, as weird as that may sound. This movie really is a hidden gem, but as you said, it can be ...weird to recommend it to others, due to the presentation and the subject matter, but it's still definitely worth watching.
