i can't believe we're here!!! i'm so glad you got more into it in the second half of the season. the show really starts like a fancy procedural with some flowery language and just keeps getting more weird and beautiful the longer you watch. s2 is generally the fan favorite and i can't wait for you to get back to it after the break. there's an interesting deleted scene this episode (which i personally don't consider canon) that shows how different will is (or would be if it was included) from when he first started working on the hobbs case. it also adds context to the strange "you frightened dr bloom" line. so here: https://youtu.be/7cPX0zgjmVY?is=oW1a4xkG1eFOUJiP also at the end of the there hannibal brings up will changing, following the urges he kept down for so long. and it makes me crazy to think about how in will's hallucination at the end of ep 6 the angel maker sees him with his head on fire and says "i see what you are. i can bring it out of you." will says he knows who he is but still denial is a river baby and speaking of fob and other millennial ass music. i once was a s1 will edit to sleep by mcr, i still think about itк

I loved your commentary as always! It was fun seeing your excitement for Will starting to figure things out and for the symbolisms showing up more and more (btw I too only fully realized the connection between the deer and Hannibal in that scene when you did, which tbh I think it's how it was set up to be... this show does storytelling so well!). Your journey through every episode is extremely relatable which is why I think you'll LOVE season 2 even more. Also aaaaa The Vampire Lestat can't believe it's so close!!!

Aaaaah here we are! So glad to see you enjoying the show! This episode has one of my favorite dialogues in it: “you are alone because you are unique. If you followed the urges you kept down for so long, cultivated them as the inspirations they are, you would have become someone other than yourself”, the first time we see Hannibal without his mask, speaking honestly without any pretense. He saw something in Will and wanted to uncover it, cultivate it. The allure of being completely yourself in spite of societal norms and expectations, absolute honesty and embracing of one’s nature. So good! And I wanted to point out a little moment, where you questioned whether Hannibal’s emotions were genuine considering he’s a “psychopath”. Obviously you’ll make up your own ideas as you go further in the series, but according to the actor (Mads Mikkelsen) and the creator (Bryan Fuller) Hannibal is actually very emotional! He has empathy, but at the same time he has complete control, so he decides when to let anything out. This makes him human and inhuman at the same time. So in that scene, following this idea, he was actually sad! Over Abigail’s fate, over the inevitability of causing Will so much harm in order to “free” him? Who knows!

Great reaction! I remember watching this show for the first time and being blown away. Season 2 is one of my favorite seasons of television ever, it's diabolical and juicy and I can't wait for you to experience it. Also looking forward to watching your reaction to The Vampire Lestat. IWTV has been such a treasure.
