Kayla

Dang it’s really taking its sweet time processing 🤣 I’m too impatient for this hahahaah

Jus Ty

almost 2 and a half hour?! damn, you spoil us!

nataly

your immediate annoyance at gabi being gross with jarda in front of lestat knowing the bathroom scene is about to come up lol 😭 but yeah she’s like taunting him, imo she’s punishing him for setting boundaries with her last ep, and probably their convo ending poorly bc she implied lestat killed claudia. she wants to hurt him and abusers tend to humiliate you when you upset them. so she’s doing it all out in the open knowing lestat won’t say anything about it.

Thea

this episode was very harrowing but incredible. loved your insights, especially regarding the discussion with Paul and Lestat’s relationship with religion in general, I hadn’t really thought about that in depth. about Lestat’s attitude during the interviews.. I feel like it’s natural he won’t let himself be vulnerable, he’s seems quite aware Daniel’s trying his best to exploit whatever he’s given and also he doesn’t need Daniel in the way Louis did. Lestat is quite self-aware (I’m curious how much he researched about psychology, seeing as he talked about depression and Nicki being bipolar) and he is using music as therapy. but I liked how Daniel’s thirst for exposing truths and his journalistic exploitative nature seems to be exacerbated after being turned, this just made him even more interesting to me. my heart is broken for Lestat and Claudia and how, like you’ve said, there might’ve been a reality where they find comfort in sharing each other’s experiences. also Louis’ expression doesn’t feel cathartic at all at the end there, super curious about where he goes from here.

Roey Oddworld

The amount of reaction videos that do not realise Louis now has the cloud gift is so disheartening but I knew I could rely on you!

Roey Oddworld

Adding to your comment about Nicki’s death adding weight to Louis begging Lestat to turn Claudia, it also takes me back to Lestat forcing Claudia to watch Charlie’s face as it burned

Temi M Reacts

Really? That’s crazy because it was such an immediate shock to me.

Temi M Reacts

😭 honestly same. I was hoping to wait up for it, but I had to finally go to bed.

Temi M Reacts

I was nervous yall would be mad 😅 not sure anyone really wants to hear me yap for so long.

Temi M Reacts

Ugh, I didn’t even connect it back to the boundary setting last episode. But it’s like…so disturbing. She’s really maximizing the humiliation too because it’s so public but she knows they have to uphold the “Sofia” persona, so she can get away with it.

Temi M Reacts

Oh my goodness, I didn’t even think of that connection. Forcing her to endure a version of what he experienced with Nicki. This show has so much depth, it’s hard to keep up.

Tony

Sam Reid said in an interview that if there's one thing he hopes the audience gets from this season it's that you can persist even through all the trauma and shit life has thrown your way like Lestat has done. I think the quote he used was "the horrors persist but so do I" and I thinks that so beautiful. Also, don't apologize for the long video, I (and I'm sure many others) love hearing your takes!

Temi M Reacts

That’s such a beautiful sentiment. It also shows a shift in Lestat that he himself has shifted from “enduring” to “persisting.” Ugh, I love this show! 😭

Temi M Reacts

So incredible. I can’t even been to think about how this season will end. It’s measuring up to be up there with S2 for me. And yes, there definitely is a noticeable shift in VampDaniel. There’s an eagerness that’s allowed him to go full throttle on pushing his “subject” more than we ever saw with Louis. Some of it is necessary because of Lestat’s resistance, but idk…it definitely feels like it’s entered into the realm of exploitation. And I’m now imagining Lestat studying psychology in an attempt to better understand those around him (and maybe a little bit more himself). In a way, I’m sort of surprised and impressed by how Lestat is so willing to be taken/influenced by modernity. Like he seems very open to contemporary ideas and ways of thinking that many human elderly can’t/refuse to. And yes, the Lestat and Claudia of it all saddens me to this day. But interesting you didn’t see Louis’s expression as one of satisfaction. I need to look back on that scene.

gabbyness

Daniel: Maybe I’m delusional because I love him, but I don’t think Daniel is really going to die. The way they are being so heavy handed with the foreshadowing feels like a red herring. I’m guessing Lestat thinks he’s dead for some reason but he actually survived. Also I think he’s really struggling and is falling back on journalism as his addiction, but it’s making him bad at his job. He looked like he was getting off on lestat’s tears. Like chill. Armand: The way lestat portrayed Armand is soooo interesting to me. First of all the box scene seemed a bit more grounded in reality than Armand’s version, but I really don’t believe that “I love you” “Christ…” line because Armand just doesn’t react to it at all. Armand would crash out. Also nicki immediately confirming that they’ve been fucking all over the place in the next scene… Honestly, Armand felt way more empathetic during Nicki’s breakdown than I thought he would be. He looks seriously pained about the whole thing. I think seeing Nicki turning out bad really influenced how he treated Claudia, because he was so sure she would go mad. Oh I also love how clearly Armand and Gabi hate each other. Need more of their bickering. So I do think Armand is up to something nefarious with Alex, but I also completely believe him joining AA. He always craves structure, so him finding a new cult seems very in character. The Lestat and Claudia parallels are so upsetting. I do think Magnus raped him, just based on how the shots line up with what Claudia is saying. It’s just so tragic how similar they were and how they could’ve related to each other. I am pissed at Louis for reading Claudia’s diary to Bruce. Absolutely in character but so selfish. Also Regina, run, this man is going to project all his feelings onto you. Ok I’ll stop rambling!

T

Lestat and Claudia :((( one of the first things I noticed (in the first season) is both of them are REALLY resilient. They just have an innate hope and belief in themselves that they must live on. So when they do bad things and when bad things happen to them they’re so sure in picking themselves up and enduring. There were many instances where their similarities were either implicitly or explicitly (Armand calling her Claudia de Lioncourt) stated. I’m soooo hoping they show us moments of the 2 of them and what they were like together from his perspective. I don’t think any other of our vampires are as resilient/hopeful as these 2.

Natalia

That song is my fav so far too, cause it feels like him finally freeing himself from their abusers (both those "muses", Magnus and Gabriella left the concert), freeing himself from the romanticized version of those relationships he made up for himself just to feel better about it. Uggghh I loved that moment of the episode

Temi M Reacts

It’s too good! I think in my excitement I forgot to call that out, but both Magnus and Gabriella leaving was totally symbolic.

T

Sorry I’m all over your comments 😭😭 this episode had so much packed into it but that scene where he’s talking to Magnus’s muse he calls him ‘Father Mags’ like how you would call a priest so I wonder if that’s also a reference to his time in the Monastery that wasn’t good. And that adds so much weight the to 1x1 when he kills those priests because he calls them ‘kid fiddlers’ in a later episode of the 1st season.

Thea

I think it was satisfying in the moment for Louis to kill Bruce but I was mostly referring to the scene in the car when he's answering Lemuel, where he didn't seem as at peace as I thought he'd be. Maybe "at peace" is the wrong term considering how heavy everything regarding Claudia is. But it just seems like getting revenge and burning the pages didn't help much with his grief. Especially considering then next thing we see him do is visit the diner (missed Delainey so much <3)

Temi M Reacts

All these motherfuckers are ADDICTS! But you’re 100% right about Daniel. I think his illness actually provided the right amount of humbling and purpose almost for him. Because he cared more about the legacy of his work. But now, with a new lease on life, his journalistic drive seems tainted in a way. Like it’s become more about getting his perfect “fix” for his own satisfaction rather than any larger purpose. It’s sad but also shows how the finality of life can create than purpose. Agreed. His blank stare after Lestst remarking “Christ” is so unbelievable. Armand is so expressive that even though he can be deferential at times, it’s never silent. The number of times he fought with Louis before following his whims is clearly the more realistic version of him. Also he was a coven leader at that time. If Lestat was being a bitch to him and Armand took it like that, they would’ve revolted a century before Louis came on the scene lol. Lestat loves to downplay his affections, but it’s becoming more transparent the more we know him. And great point about Armand’s perspective of Claudia! Nicki’s totally his reference point for his expectations for her descent, and also likely reinforces his desire to never create another vampire. So curious how he’s going to use Alex though. I was so speechless during that scene. I couldn’t believe just how much their experiences mirrored each other. In another life, he could’ve really been a valuable father figure to her. Someone write that fanfic for me! Lol Oh interesting. Curious why you feel that way about Louis reading the diary. I have a sense but want to hear your thoughts! And giiiiiiirl, run for your life! I was so curious what role Delaney would play in this season. I swear if Louis makes a Claudia v2, I’m gonna lose it.

Temi M Reacts

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 yes to everything! Gosh, the resilience of those two is really inspiring in some ways. This is honestly why I believed if given a chance, Claudia would’ve made it. I didn’t have the same pessimism as Armand about her fate. Especially after she met Madeleine. Oh my goodness. I hadn’t even considered that. The only time we heard from the real Lestat about Claudia was when he broke down in that conversation with Louis. I reeeeeally want to hear his perspective of her now that we get him authentic voice. Omg. I need to know!

Temi M Reacts

Interesting. Definitely need to rewatch as I read it as him being content and in a way going to see the waitress as a final closing if that chapter. But maybe not!

gabbyness

Lmfao I realized I forgot to say that I loved the reaction! Thank you for it! A lot of reactors either don’t understand what’s happening or don’t think very deeply about it so I appreciate you a lot! Yes they are all addicts! Actually all of you should join AA (not really AA sucks). Daniel looking like a stray dog feeding on that drunk man in the alley during loneliness was crazy. Fatherless behavior. Oh such a good point about Nicki influencing Armand’s decision not to make another vampire. He always seems concerned it won’t turn out well (worried about madeleine turning into one of those zombies). Louis and Claudia’s diaries: I have really complicated feelings on this. I think when I saw the first two seasons I didn’t think much of it. But now I can’t help but see him reading and then publishing her diaries as exploitation of her in line with all his other exploitative practices. And then if you are going to publish it, cutting out parts of it seems like a further violation even if in his mind it’s to protect her. This is an insane comparison, but it’s the only one I could think of: it reminds me of Otto Frank publishing Anne Frank’s diaries posthumously, but editing out the parts he found inappropriate. So for the scene with Bruce, I just think reading her diary entry about her rape to her rapist is not for her. It’s for Louis. Like Bruce isn’t going to feel bad about it, so I don’t see the point. (I see the point narratively of course and think it’s a good writing choice). But just kill Bruce, Louis. Louis do not make that woman a vampire. I’m so stressed that he’s going to be stalking her next episode

Alex T

Don't apologize for the talking! I love your insights and this is a very yap-worthy episode.

Alex T

Also: You asked if Nicki's hand would grow back. In the books, vampiric limbs can be reattached IF the original limb is preserved. I don't know if those are the rules they're going with for the show, but given Lestat/Armand/Gabriella's reactions to Nicki throwing his severed hand in the fire, I'm willing to bet yes? Burning it means there's no chance of it being reattached and Lestat and Armand's looks of horror reflect that. I agree with your take that Lestat never told Louis about Gabriella. I think he only said that because she was in the room during the interview. (Get her OUT of there omg.) Double agree with episode 3 feeling like the moment the season clicks. Episode 1, and to an extent episode 2, felt a little like setup: here's the new narrator, here's the wild shit he's doing, here's his crazy mom, here are his coping methods. But I do think they had to show how resistant he is to "letting out the muses" to give the Loneliness sequence its emotional impact. I'm stoked to see where it goes from here!

J

Great reaction! Really appreciated your detailed reaction to the last twenty minutes in particular. So true about the song performance, it was so moving! That scene really sums up Lestat to me; a character who finds a way forward no matter what he suffers. I loved your point about getting why people are so ride or die for Lestat here (though sorry fans were so annoying in the comments for past seasons!). But that's the TVL reading experience - he's such an intense and funny and heartbreaking narrator that you really feel like you know him and love him by the end. It's cool to see the show create the same effect! Also I found it so moving that he imagined Nicki there at the end, happy. He sticks out his tongue at him and Nicki laughs. Echoes of the young humans they were before Magnus tore their lives apart. Nicki gave him his first real experience with music and that's something that can still let Lestat remember him with love. Re: "Ask for it, child" - Magnus wanted Lestat to ask for the gift, to accept his blood. But Lestat never did – the last word of his mortal life was 'no', which is a devastating detail :(

Alex (NOT ALICE)

I haven't read the comments here nor have I even finished the video (I'm about half way) but I wanted to point out something I just realized (I'm a lil slow, okay? haha). The night in New Orleans when Lestat brings all those soldiers home to fuck with Louis (and honestly - probably a method of self-abuse/self-harm. Placing ones self in a situation he knew would hurt and scar him. When something hurts, some people respond by making their wound bigger), when they have the fight about him meeting with Jonah and Lestat has a meltdown about how they *must* have feelings for each other. I only now just realized that it hurt him so profoundly because it reminded him about reconnecting with Nicky in Paris - the first time in a while it seemed. Then eventually falling in love and all the trauma that came with the events that followed. He was faced with the resurfacing trauma of those events when he found Louis with an old fling. omg my heart :(

Miki

so if you have the time go back to the trial episode in season 2 about around the time lestat is on stage and he is talking about his first love nicky. The animatic of a violin playing and disembodied hands i think. and then lestat looks into the audience at armand when santiago says nicky killed himself and lestat says "well with a little help from others" looking at armand. sick stuff man. im waiting on the part where armand tells the truth

Miki

also blink and youll miss it but we lost the tall tower collapsing around 1:26:06

Natalia

Another thing that broke me was the implications of Gabriella basically fucking his body-double at the same time Lestat is reliving the trauma of his turning, where Magnus had piles of corpeses that looked like him, who know what he did to those before killing them, seeing what he did to the real Lestat. It's just so heinous of her, like even if she doesn't know what Lestat went through during his turning, that moment makes Gabriella basically the same as Magnus in terms of how abusive she is with Lestat (of course, she's maybe even worse bc of all the incest and the fact that she's her mother). Anyway, heartbreaking. And Lestat just have to sit there and take it bc she's doing it in public so he can't freak out about it.

Temi M Reacts

Ohhhh perhaps! I think I heard it as a humorous nickname like how Claudia used to call Louis “Daddy Lou,” but the religious elements are also so present in the scenes with Magnus that I wouldn’t be surprised at that connection.

Temi M Reacts

🥹 thanks! I sometimes get a little self-conscious about how much I’m going on and on. So I appreciate it! And wow, that makes a lot of sense. So throwing his hand into the fire was final. And okay, I’m glad you agree because that feels so unlikely that Louis wouldn’t mention it. I guess he wanted to spare her feelings that he was “hiding” her. And I second that: GET HER OUT OF THERE! I agree, Episode 3 really felt like the end of a mini arc of the season. We needed that pace and breathing room of the first two episodes doe that payoff. Love it!

Temi M Reacts

Yes, I find this season even in three episodes has painted a more sympathetic picture of Lestat. He’s still not without faults, but his characterization is just so much more complex than we’ve had the opportunity to see. Such a moving song. Can’t get it out of my head. And yes, I wish I spoke more about the Nicki and Mangus appearances during that performance, but it’s so beautiful to see the real love that existed between them. Tragic end but it gave Lestat a beautiful gift he’ll cherish forever. Yes, I understood it better when I was editing episode 2 because we get a quick glimpse of him saying it. The connection to the sexual assault scene becomes even more palpable.

Temi M Reacts

I HEARD YOUR HEARTS DANCING! But you’re so right. That’s what so great about this season is that it just adds so much more depth to the scenes we’ve seen before. Knowing more of Lestat’s history, traumas, biases, etc make his actions that much more understandable.

Temi M Reacts

Oh yes, I remember this scene! Don’t recall the severed hand, so I need to look back at that. But the “with a little help from others” was such a vague enough line that I (and I assume many others) perceived it as Armand somehow pushing Nicki towards death rather than him being the one to literally burn his body.

Temi M Reacts

Omg I didn’t even think to relate his body double to the similar-looking corpses Magnus collected. 😩 this man’s trauma is just inescapable. And that would really be dispicable. Even if triggering that was not her intention, it’s still sick and manipulative.

KAM

Another amazing reaction and discussion! Thank you for all the great insights!!!✨

Daniel McGuinness

Lestat performing ‘The Loneliness’ at the end to a bunch of his “muses” in the crowd, with the image of Magnus and Gabriella leaving the show, but Nicky staying and smiling as Lestat performs 😭😭😭 it’s beautiful honestly Also think you were on the money with Lestat trying to recontextualise his relationship with Magnus through the music video lens! He says something during uh interview about Magnus’ suicide giving him a lightness he wouldn’t have known “had he lingered the centuries beside me” but I think that’s exactly what happened. It’s clear from Lestat interacting with him in the car this isn’t the first time he’s hallucinated Magnus, I think he’s been a consistent ghost for him ever since he threw himself in the fire. Lestat screaming for him to get “Back inside!!!” ☹️☹️ and saying “You got your song” like that was supposed to appease him, or maybe help Lestat process his pain though the music to help him let go of Magnus, in hopes he would stop seeing him? Just tragic all around I do think there’s a little more to his “muses” in regards to waking the Queen 👀 especially with Magnus saying those at the Long Table “keep wondering when he’s going to make an album” and we know his tour cause some global catastrophe 👀👀👀

Daniel McGuinness

1:26:03 DID YOU CATCH THE SPACE NEEDLE COLLAPSING IN THE BACKGROUND after Lestat says “Serving cunt has its consequences”

Temi M Reacts

😳 oh man, i totally missed that. The CN Tower has fallen? Scared for what that portends.

Temi M Reacts

Such a beautiful scene. There seemed to be such a catharsis in that moment. I'm actually listening to it as I write this and am getting emotional again 😅 You're totally right about that line. Magnus has "lingered the centuries" within him this entire time. And that's also so...human too. We like to think these traumatic moments can no longer cause us pain if we simply ignore, avoid, and repress them, but Lestat as he's been thus far is proof of that. And he's had hundred of years on most of us. Oooof, that car scene *levitates* one of the few times we got see Lestat in all his emotional vulnerability. No Daniel or cameras or lovers or mother to perform for. Just him and his demons/muses. And yeah, it's interesting he thought THAT song would rid him of Magnus. It still didn't reach deep enough until "Loneliness." Yeah, part of me wants to try to "solve" the mystery of the global catastrophe and the Akasha reawakening. But the other side of me is just enjoying the ride. My curiosity is still there though lol

Temi M Reacts

I didn't see it until another commenter pointed it out! 😳 I'm scared. Glad I visited the CN Tower before then lol

Daniel McGuinness

Real 😭 I have 3 of his songs in my liked already - which is where I noticed the kind of heartbreaking ending lyrics to Magnus’ ‘tribute’ (I guess) song “Your Biggest fan” “My little wolf killer, drink up and dance around the fire tonight” 😭 The car scene is an all-timer, like the way he cycles through emotions, from praying to screaming to crying, and his FACE when Magnus says Claudia’s name… Sam Reid we’re gonna get you that Emmy!

Temi M Reacts

Gonna get him that Emmy even if we personally have to show up to the house of every academy voter and force them to watch show A Clockwork Orange style lol Yeah, I need to listen more intently to the lyrics of that one.

evolyror

temi you are always so astute about so many details of this show, never apologize for long vids! the themes you manage to extract from the show are so paralleled with the themes of the characters from the books, a credit to both the writers being able to capture that and to you for understanding the complexities; I always look forward to your analysis! the way you said lestat being a different man after the wolves, and armand being doomed to follow the same role he had, you're so on it !! the Lestat and Claudia parallels are so traumatic, and adds so much to the complexity of their relationship. and with Nicki, not only does it add another later to Claudia's turning like you said, but I also wonder given Lestat's insistence on some form of consent if he also felt as though he were in Magnus’ place for Claudia. so many horrors about that people really should be letting others interact with the material at their own pace, especially reactors, but it's been fun to see how Lestat creeps up on everyone as a character to root for, or to want to follow through a story the loneliness is such a good song!!!! so true to Lestat's pursuit of music being how he overcomes everything. there's something magical in the way it's shown, with the muses and the overlayed scenes—I’m totally as excited as you about that! he played it at the concert too, and seeing how personal of a moment he made it even in a live setting was so cool, it felt nearly the way it did in the show. so excited to see what they'll give us next!

Daniel McGuinness

Not to jump in again right before the next episode but I’m just realising that Lestat made the same “ooooohhhhh” sound when he was hallucinating Baby Jenks as Nicky made when he was dying ☹️☹️☹️

Grace

So what Magnus does to Lestat is definitely meant to be understood as SA, especially within the framework of the show (but is taken directly from the book and described later as rape) and you can see it clearly if you do watch closely, but I like how you said that either way it’s a violent stripping of autonomy that mirrors Claudia’s words identically, and intentionally.

deluxing

what this episode really made me grapple with was the book as a violation of privacy tbh; like i think daniel basically quoting louis talking about magnus and then seeing it really made me think about how triggering it must have felt to read it in a book you had no idea existed really stuck out to me on a rewatch

Temi M Reacts

Yeah, the more I think about it, I can really understand why Lestat views the book as such a betrayal from Louis because while of course some of it is Louis's story to tell, all the intimate details about Lestat that he shared with Louis in confidence was a bridge too far.

Temi M Reacts

Absolutely! In many ways the experiences of SA and forced turning are one in the same. Lestat yelling "no!" really cemented that for me.

Temi M Reacts

woah! what a realization! i didn't even remember that moment.

Temi M Reacts

thanks so much! 🥹 and yes, it's such a testament to the statement that the show captures the essence of the books so well, even with more "superficial" changes to the material. such a talent. the tragic of Lestat and Claudia's similarities is so striking because i can't help but think of what could have been if their relationship wasn't so antagonistic from the beginning (at least in Louis' retelling). agreed. my thought is, wouldn't it be so much satisfying to watch a reactor slowly come around to your favorite character rather than being forced to do so without an unaltered journey? but i guess they fear without their intervention, it's possible it may never happen. but idk, i think that's okay too. and i'm waiting until i finish the season to watch footage of the show, but i'm so excited to hear how the audience reacted to many of the songs without the context of the show vs now. do you feel like you were able to understand the message even back then? or did you have a completely different reaction?

evolyror

it's truly so well adapted! 😌 that is one of the bigger tragedies of the series, how and when loustat failed Claudia and the inability to do anything further about it. I'd argue one of the biggest themes of this story is what can be forgiven if one has forever to process, and Claudia was robbed of that. as you said, I'd would be so interesting to see how Lestat and Claudia could have been with one another if they had a different start, or if they had the time to find understanding between them! you'd think so, because it's also very cool to hear from people with different opinions on the character to perhaps see a different side to them, to see outside of a bias towards the character even. it's very human of us to think that if someone doesn't like something, they must not know "this" about it, otherwise they would, but it also defeats the point of reactions! it's also fun to share context and I get that, I often have to hold back 😂 smart! I don't think it's spoilery but it's a fun idea to have something waiting at the end of the series to look forward to! context is mostly easy to understand from the books, but as you have seen, the way they use the songs is unique so nothing has been given the potential for a different reaction I don't think! I was concerned about 'your biggest fan' and whether it would be retroactively horrifying for show-only fans to see the context after hearing only the song, but they really were so clever with it being Lestat's deflection!

Crystalrose

Love your commentary so much that i had to join patreon!!! Clicking play on the episode neowwww

Ben

What happened to Nicky is why he didn't want Loui to make Claudia

Ben

Am i the only one that noticed the tower that fell as Lestat drove by?

Ben

it was written in Claudia's diary...remember Loui refused to talk about it...Daniel kept pushing him and he made Daniel shake uncontrollably.

gee

this episode BROKE MEEE

gee

the way at the end of claudia's diary entry about her time with bruce, she says "and the worst part was i thought i was the one lurking in the shadows" juxtaposed with lestat lying defeated after magnus' assault and suicide bc lestat and the ppl around him thought his killing of the wolves made him into a man and a force to be reckoned with but he realized just how powerless he is despite being bestowed with vampiric power....IT KILLS ME

gee

gosh and the hatred lestat has for armand makes so much sense cause had a part to play in both nicki's and claudia's death...also the scene where nicki is enjoying lestat's performance makes me so fucking sad at that point i was just sobbing. Like oh how he wishes he still had someone that understood his passion for music the way nicki did, but he succumbed to madness too early its just beyond heartbreaking UGH
