2024 Convention Update (Patreon)

We want to start by saying thank you to everyone in the Patreon who has supported us now and in the past. We are so grateful to be able to do what we love, and share our creations with an ever growing and enthusiastic audience.

We could not have made it to this point without all of you, and especially without those who have been with us for so long. Your support over the years, and even more so through Covid, when so many artists struggled just to stay afloat, has made what we do possible. Homemade Horrors would not exist without the people who believed in us back when we were two terrified college graduates with nothing but Art Degrees and debt to our names, who just wanted to make monsters. You gave us a chance, and stuck with us, bringing your friends and family (and savings) to our first Deviantart gallery, etsy shop, and then convention after convention.

Furnal Equinox was an unprecedented and overwhelming success; far surpassing our expectations, both in the dealer’s den and for our very first convention panel. We had a blast, and it was such a joy to hang out with everyone who came, and to see so many of our monsters from as far back as our very first Anime North!

Unfortunately, an event that brought joy to many, offered disappointment for others.

Over the past several years, demand for our monsters has grown, and we have done our best to make them available to as many happy homes as possible. We’ve offered RNG and Juried custom openings, unlimited pre-orders and blind bag shop drops, as well as several RNG drops for both regular shop stock and Limited Editions.

In 2021, we so badly wanted to give everyone a chance for a custom order that we over committed, and as a result we are still two years behind. In order to catch up and shorten wait times we had to cut custom openings way back in 2022 and 2023. We know that has made customs even more elusive than they were before, and we understand the frustration caused by that shortage. Thankfully, we are very nearly through the last of the 2021 orders, and given the smaller number taken in the following years, we will soon be in a much better position to offer more regular openings.

Conventions are a different challenge, and we’ve been ruminating on the subject for a while. We’ve had a few patrons reach out via email with their concerns prior to today’s discord discussion. That said, we want to be clear, that we have no intention of discouraging anyone, especially our long time fans, from attending, buying or proxying at conventions. We love seeing you, and your joy and enthusiasm make all the long hours of prep worthwhile!

In the interest of spreading that joy around, and welcoming new members into the Homemade Horrors fold, we’re going to ask that people limit themselves to 2 monsters per person for the first hour of general entry (this will include advanced entry.) After that point you’re welcome to come back and adopt whoever you so choose.

We’re hoping this will offset the pressure to spend extra money on advanced entry tickets, and give everyone a chance to bring home their very favorites.

We’ll have more information about Patreon Tiers and custom orders in 2024 coming out soon!
