Anytime I have to photograph an all black critter, I feel like I need to invest in a better camera. It's so tricky to get good pics of dark furs! Anyway this lovely custom features wee wings, and an EXTRA long tail with silky fur that gives it an almost hair-like drape.

God that is the eternal struggle isn't it? Tricks I have learned from having an all-black cat: brightest light possible (forget everything photography ever taught you about open shade - SUN SUN SUN). If you can, make sure the backdrop is not too bright. If using a DSLR set your focal point so it ONLY meters from the center dot, meter/focus with a half-press then move before finishing the shutter press to shoot - letting it auto-set the focal points means it will meter for the whole scene and try and even it to neutral which just friggin flattens everything. If using a phone tap the darkest point so it meters for the abyss. LOL Our couch is dark blue which works VERY well for taking photos of dark objects without them getting lost. (Ironically thanks to this cat I now struggle much more to meter for white 🤣) After that I still often have to edit in post unless the lighting was exactly perfect. LOL

I'm reallllly hampered by the fact the windows behind the only space I can photograph mean everything gets back lit. I've bought a couple different lights to try and combat the issue, but it still becomes a situation where most of the time I have to wait until full dark to get decent pics. I will give the focal point trick though, thank you!

Ooof yeah limited space does make it hard. I run up against that in this house too (windows are only on the north-south walls except for in one room and really only the south ones get any good light in then I have to dodge clutter or crop extra close LOL)
