Idk, I actually liked the mission beyond the wall. Just to see the magnitude of the wights, the wight walkers and the the Night Kings army was a sight. And I believe part of that plot you’re talking about was for Daenerys to see the army of the dead as well. She needed a reason to fight with The North. Seeing the threat for herself and then losing Viscerion, gave her all she needed to want to avenge her baby and join Jon in the fight. Jon then bending the knee is another plot point cuz as we now know, Jon being the legitimate son of Rhaegar, he is the true heir to the Iron throne, not Dany.

Conversations With Characters

Ned always said the person who passes the sentence should swing the sword. Sansa passed the sentence and Arya "swung the sword", illustrating how they are now more unified.
