I asked ChatGPT to write a synopsis in hillbilly style: Well, lemme tell ya 'bout this here Voyager episode called "Non Sequitur." Now, ol' Harry Kim, he's this feller who's all the time tinkerin' with them fancy Starfleet gadgets and whatnot. One day, he wakes up, an' doggone it, he ain't on that starship no more! Nope, he's back on good ol' Earth, right in San Francisco, livin' the high life as if he never got lost out yonder in the Delta Quadrant. Harry's scratchin' his head, wonderin' what in tarnation's goin' on. He's got a purdy gal by his side, a nice cozy job, and ain't nobody talkin' 'bout no Voyager or no gettin' home from billions o' miles away. But Harry, he ain't feelin' right 'bout this here situation. Somethin' don't add up, like a pig that don't oink. Turns out, ol' Harry got himself mixed up in some kinda timey-wimey mishap, and his real life done got swapped with some sorta alternate reality. He tries to tell folks he's s'posed to be out there on Voyager, but they just look at him like he's been drinkin' too much moonshine. Now, Harry ain't one to sit on his haunches, so he gets to work figurin' out how to set things right. He teams up with this shady feller named Cosimo, who’s got his own secrets, an' together, they start messin' with them timelines like a couple o' raccoons in a chicken coop. By the end, Harry manages to wrangle himself back onto that there Voyager, leavin' behind the cushy life he coulda had. But he knows he's where he belongs, out there with Captain Janeway and the rest of the crew, tryin' to find their way back home. And that, folks, is the story of "Non Sequitur," where Harry Kim learns that the grass ain't always greener, even if it is on Earth.

Woohoo! Have been hanging out for the new ep :)

Rich Gross

Watching now! So far I’ve learned that Robbie cheats at pool.

Rich Gross

I wonder if Jennifer (“Libby”) was ignoring Garrett at craft services because she either felt awkward around him after the kissing scenes, like perhaps she had a history of male actors hitting on her after them having kissing scenes together, and she wanted to avoid that possibility.

Borgscan

Like Garrett I sometimes count the seconds too, but what I do more often is in shots where an actor needs to hold their breath because they are exposed to space or water for a few second, I hold my breath to see if it's plausible, I know that's weird.

Cristian Popa

I actually thought Harry might stay in the alternate timeline because he finally had a clear shot to his promotion.

Jennifer7895

Really enjoyed the extra long watch a longs, very funny.

Matt

OMG Yes, it's Doogie Howser!

Matt

This is why this podcast is so great! If you can incorporate, "It's a Wonderful Life" into a bar scene with Harry and Tom, and actually have it make sense! That's something special.. ;)

Matt

Did Garrett just say "light speed" in terms of dialogue? For shame Ensign, it's Warp Speed. LOL

Borgscan

Or he stays in the alternate timeline and still waits 7 years for a promotion, gets disgruntled and quits Starfleet to go and work for Cosimo because free Vulcan Mocas is better than being an Ensign for this entire career.

Breana Harris

I've always wondered about the Danny Byrd mystery, because in season 5 B'Elanna talks about beating up a kid on the playground named Daniel Byrd who used to make fun of her for being Klingon. Was is the same writer reusing the name by accident or was it actually Harry's friend?? If it was, then Robbie is justified in his hate. Also I've been to the Frieze art fair on the Paramount backlot a couple times, when it's full of art installations, and now I always recognize it in Star Trek! It's crazy how it's looked basically the same for so long.

Megan Hurwitt

Gd, Robbie, you looked young in this!

Megan Hurwitt

Btw Garrett, this is one of my fav eps of season 2

Eric Bennett

Robby: "My beard isn't gray, it is blond." Garrett: "A gray blond." LOL

Eric Bennett

I liked Garrett's,"I remember EVERYTHING about this episode!" It was a very good episode though. For any of you who are interested, in the Voyager novels that take place after they return (starting with Voyager: Homecoming), Libby does show up. Won't give any details though as to what happens.

Irene Artho

This 4th-floor location of Harry's flat is stuck in my head when watching the episode. When he escapes through the window it does seem to be 4th floor. Also, the house he exits out of at the start doesn't look like it has 54 or however many floors. I'm thinking maybe the windows have some sort of holo display to give them a higher floor view, though he really only is on the 4th floor.

TheDeltaFlyers

Omg, I always hold my breath as well! So happy to know I’m not the only one who does that:) ~~ Garrett

TheDeltaFlyers

I never made that Daniel Byrd connection! Thanks for bringing it up, I will have to investigate further by asking the writers...~~Garrett

Stephanie Baker

I wonder when Robbie starts watching these episodes that he doesn’t remember, when does he go ‘oh yeah! I remember now!”

Stephanie Baker

Harry gets laid and stays loyal to his girlfriend.

Chris Flores

Really enjoyed this, glad it's long.

Justin Rhoads

I do the same exact thing as Garrett except with guns. Being somewhat a collector (mostly antique firearms) I’ll sit there and count the shots before reloads. It’s amazing how many more rounds come out of a 1911 in movies sometimes than it can fit. Or how they improperly load a gun or unnecessarily constantly cock weapons in action movies. Ha. Only World War II aficionados like Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg ever seem to get right.

Roe O'Brien

wow, seeing robbie rap was *chef's kiss*

Utopia Science Fiction

I also got the It's a Wonderful Life vibe watching this. Did anyone else find it strange that Cosimo knew exactly where Harry Kim lived? Not just the general vicinity or building, but the apartment number and floor. Maybe things are different in the 24th century, but that always strikes me as a bit odd.

Michelle Z

The only reason I didn't ask questions about this episode was because they all ended up being plot based. If you do bring in Braga to talk at some point, I want to ask if the end of the story was changed right before production. It could explain some of the plot holes.

Charity Ponton

It's nice to know I am not the only one that counts the seconds ....muh immersion!

Kris Hansen

Not knowing the presentation--the script, the speech, etc.--is such a common tension dream, I think every viewer had to be squirming about that scene!

Sebastian Kajan

Thank you guys, I really enjoyed your comments and stories about this episode. Although, I did not like this particular episode very much when I watched it years ago because of the awkward and somewhat shameful moments it has. But well, maybe I‘ll watch it again and feel different this time :-)

Char

It looked like alt Paris didn't have the sideburn wigs, so does that mean that only Starfleet Officers have pointy sideburns or is it just part of Tom not keeping up his appearance? The ankle monitor also serves as a visual aid for others that the person wearing it might have done something wrong.

Holly Smith

This video was a joy to watch. I learned so much about how sex scenes work these days and I’m so happy the industry is taking everyone’s feelings and boundaries into account when filming. I love the commentary we get, especially from RDM, regarding directing and other behind the scenes info. I also enjoyed GW’s anecdotes about stunt actors and how learning about how they get paid affected his future choices regarding doing his own stunts. Keep it coming, guys, this is great stuff!

Kelly Bee (CaptainKathryn)

LOL OMG I LOVED THE RECAP RIFF that was excellent. Also I love Non-Sequitur, it is one of my favorite Harry Kim episodes. There are quite a few really good Harry episodes, but I have always had such a soft spot for this one. Great episode! Thank you for doing this podcast, I am really having a blast listening to it!

Mathew Sands

I love all the director stuff! Miss the fan reviews though--did I miss that or was it taken out?

TheDeltaFlyers

We changed from reviews to questions from our Admiral level tier. We wanted to incorporate our supporters into the show.

bakura

What i don't understand is how did Tom get drunk i thought they drank Synthehol in the federation rather than alcohol? Or is that just starship's?

Johanna Kunin

Loved how the shuttle chase at the end was Tom and Harry's "Thelma and Louise" moment -- running from the law, straight into the abyss! If only y'all had been holding hands.

Samantha

Bros before hoes

ST Fan CB

I remember a little musical ditty sung by the late George Carlin during one of his specials. It ties in with Harry getting some action, Harry owing Tom "one" and Harry's jaunty walk. Tah ray da boom de-ay Did you get yours today? I got mine yesterday Thats why I walk this way :-) And I want the review section back in addition to the questions!

The Real Andrew Kim

to be fair, there are parts of SF like nob hill and telegraph hill where you can be on the fourth floor and have view above the skyline cuz of how hilly the city is... my question is how they decide who gets the nice housing in SF in the future cuz right now the home prices......sheesh

Christina

I love this episode because it’s all about Harry and Tom. First Tom gets slapped by the Doc, then his best friend manhandles him. Lol
