Rebecca and Megan are hilarious! Megan's laugh as Garrett was differentiating between the word "sects" and "sex" then Rebecca asking about Chakotay's "digital buttcrack" 😁

Rich Gross

First, I have to thank Rebecca again for the graphics! So great! I noticed something in this episode that I see sometimes in Star Trek (all variants) that gets to me, and that’s inconsistent use of communicators. Sometimes they tap them to talk, and sometimes they just start talking. There doesn’t seem to be any rule for it. At first I thought maybe when they’re aboard the ship they don’t have to touch them because the computer hears them, but I looked for that pattern and that doesn’t work either. Another thing: The turbolifts crack me up. How is is that all of the major departments are perfectly vertically aligned? It’s a huge ship, and yet you can apparently get into the one turbolift on the bridge and go directly to sick bay, engineering, whatever. I appreciate the details of how some of the shots were done. It’s interesting to hear about the second unit work and how Robbie had to show up and be the only one there, acting in front of the green screen to set the shot up for visual effects. That certainly sounds like the tedious, less glamorous side of the job. One more note about this Voyager episode: Regarding the transporter, it was great to see it used in creative ways as part of the battle. I always wondered why they weren’t used in that way more often. Just use the transporter to put everyone in a locked room, then the battle is over!

Christopher Collins

I think the way to look at how come the Kazon are unable to get food or water yet have this technology is that they are like terrorist in the Middle East and I think they were trying to model the Kazon culture on that concept that they spend their money on things that can build weapons but don’t invest enough money in the important things such as food and water. I don’t think that the execution of the Kazon culture was very well done. It made no sense that they had trouble getting a hold of food supplies.

Stephanie Baker

Every female wants a piece of Chakotay in this episode. Belanna wonders if he could more than a friend. Seska wants to have his baby, and Janeway lets him off the hook at the end. They are all struggling with feelings for Chakotay.

Justin Rhoads

Keep in mind Chakotay was responding to an issue, made deeply personal, in defense of the ship and crew itself. Poor Tom got thrown in the brig because he simply did what he wanted, when he wanted, how he wanted in defiance of any rules or authority on a purely selfish endeavor.

Kathleen Scherrman

The comments in the rewatch had me laughing until I practically cried. So funny! I can't wait until Robby calls Roxanne out on her Chakotay crush.

Moonglade

Robbie and his Chakotay and B'Elanna jealousy cracks me up! <3 and then Garrett rubbing it in :D Oh, and Rebecca's 'Digital buttcrack' question - too funny! :D I have to agree with Garrett's shout out on Robert Beltran's acting in the interrogation scene - everyone in that scene was great, but RB was especially superb.

Emily Hansen

I agree, this issue with Chakotay was so clearly a one-time situation. There was never any danger of him repeating his actions. Tom might have been establishing a precedent, so Janeway nipped it in the bud.

Rhonda Dirr

I cannot wait for the Voyager panel at STLV (hoping next year); it is going to be hilarious. The episodes are going to be so fresh in your minds, that the two of you will be answering all the "Do you remember" questions.

Chris P

Once you go Digital Butt Crack, you can never go back!

Craig Drebit

I was at that Aliens Reunion at Calgary Expo! I believe it was in 2014 and it was fantastic. I hope you are asked to come moderate some panels again at the 2021 Expo.

Eric Bennett

Robbie and Garrett, there were other episodes (Star Trek shows) where weapons were disabled during transports. That's cannon. Probably the first time it happened in Voyager though. Chakotay destroyed the technology that the Kazon stole right before he handed his phaser to Seska that is why they did not ask for that technology back (though Tuvok would not have known that it was destroyed yet, but it was destroyed).

Stephanie G Williams

Looooove it! I think the "jealousy" over Chakotay and B'Elanna is too funny. Y'all need to bring Beltran back and have Robbie call him out and see what sort of hilarity ensues! 😋 Great recap as always. 💖

Borgscan

All of the Kazon technology was taken from the Trabe and the Trabe had a homeworld that would have produced food and water. Where as the Kazon were somewhat nomadic and none of them probably wantws to be farmers. Also it would seem that the matter replication is more difficult to achieve than directed energy (weapons, tractor beams) as none of the species shown appear (except for the Caretaker/Nacene. It's also very possible the Sikarian and "Sky Spirits" from VOY: "Prime Factors" and VOY: "Tattoo" had matter replication) to have matter replication ability until later into Voyager's travels.

Borgscan

Good points and than you for addressing them. However, Tuvok should have known that it had been destroyed if Voyager received Chakotay's message after destroying it. But Tuvok couldn't have been one hundred per cent certain of that.

I know Robbie and Garrett have nothing but wonderful things to say about the actress who plays Seska, and from her podcast behind the scenes interviews, she seems wonderful. But I always hated Seska, and this episode is why. Even as a young girl watching Voyager with my parents live for the first time, this episode rubbed me the wrong way. I knew then that I didn't want kids, and reproductive coercion is my idea of personal hell. Whether or not the kid turned out to be his or not, the idea of it terrified me then and still does now.

Nancy Lapierre

Chakotea destroyed the transporter when he first got there

Paul Johnston

Well done to Robbie. For not RISING to any PENAL jokes.

Jason Michael

There was a TNG episode where Obrien beamed someone on board and disabled their weapon using the transporter so there's consistency there!

Bethany Avery

I loved hearing the inside scoop too. For the turbo lift the departments don’t have to be vertically aligned- they can go side to side too. that’s the benefit of the lift over an elevator, so I’m sure the idea is that a ship’s designer would need to make sure the lift could connect them more directly then other areas of the ship.

TheDeltaFlyers

So....Megan has been showing me episodes of the Canadian show Degrassi. She commented that the character of Wheels looks like Robbie. With all his facial hair gone, he really looks like Wheels. If you’re not familiar with this show which began in 1987, just google “Wheels Degrassi” and check out the resemblance~~Garrett

Irene Artho

Yep, definitely! Looks very similar! (bit late, I'm catching up with old videos after having upgraded to Commander)

ST Fan CB

So THIS is the genesis episode of where the Haiku and Limerick come in as a synopsis of the story. When I upgraded to LT for the extras and went back to re-watch the podcasts I was already into season 4 and had thought that the Haiku and limerick went way farther back than E12 S2. Honestly the jealousy bit of RDM over Torres and Chakotay is getting very obnoxious. It was barely funny in the beginning and is very tired and overdone now. Go watch Frozen and "let it go" for crying out loud!

Christina

I just want to say that without the beard, Robbie looks younger than Garrett. Lol

Rachelle H

I love His Jealousy thing, it's funny and cute. 😄
